Elden Ring on release day, all being well, then Horizon Forbidden West whenever the price has dropped to £50-55 - I didn't pay £70 for Demon's Souls or Returnal, and I'm not going to start coughing up that much anytime soon. Forbidden West is now getting a PS5 upgrade if you buy the PS4 version if that helps.

As a shameless fan boy and apologist for HZD, I'm actually not that hyped for the sequel, strangely. I think the story and world building of the first game were what I loved the most, and without the unfolding mystery of how the world came to be I'm worried the sequel will be missing a large part of what made me love the first game so damn much. So yeah, happy to wait for a decent price on Forbidden West. Elden Ring will be day one though. Exactly my feelings! Me too. How did you get on with the first ones DLC? I abandoned it as without the overarching mystery to solve I didn't have the motivation and fear the sequel will be the same. Yet the main game was one of only two I've platinumed. I loved HZD but most of that was about the story, discovery, and strong sense of place. Not sure how they could recreate that same level of intrigue in a sequel. Can't say there's anything on that list I'd be willing to spend £50 on never mind £70.

That's not all that many games in looking forward to in 2022.
Elden Ring is a maybe, but I'm put off by the skill required in FromSoftware's games as I'm a very lazy gamer.
Other than that nothing I've seen has really sparked my interest. Triangle Strategy is probably the thing that's got my interest the most.

I think the operating hypothesis here might be that they've actually made a properly decent *game* this time, rather than a tame knockoff with some rough edges. The story won't need to do all the heavy lifting if the gameplay is not entirely derivative dross trying to sail through on the back of SHOOT THE ROBO DINOS!

Don't talk guff, HZD had great combat. It was OK, but never really gelled with me (nor for a lot of people, I'm hardly an outlier here). Plus it would periodically put you in a tiny cave and make you fight a giant robot, which was bollocks. It genuinely was only the story that carried me through that shit, and credit where it's due that was really well executed by the environments and logs. Less so by the wooden performance and voice delivery of the cast.

Horizon Zero Dawn lacked a certain something, I can't say the prospect of a sequel interests me at all.
Maybe we need new vocabulary, a game that's curiously soulless, that feels like it's designed by committee conforming to a safe checklist that they've been assured makes a great game, resulting in a bland, charmless husk.
It would be easier if just one word covered all that since there's a lot of it about these days.

Already paid for Destiny but I'll be having some of Elden Ring and Horizon. Oh and GT7 the week after Feb.

Interested in HFW but only play on PC so that won't be 2022 I would think.
It's 1st March rather than Feb but Elex 2 is the first must buy next year for me

It's weird, I didn't really get on with the original but the more I see of the sequel I'm really looking forward to it.
I guess deep down inside I'm just a big fat graphics slut.

I didn't finish the DLC but I almost never do tbh. My concerns are exactly the same as yours, I am keen on the game despite that due to the bonkers graphics.

Less so by the wooden performance and voice delivery of the cast. I did not like those cave arena type bits, especially when the prize was ironically something that was useful for avoiding fighting. I did very much enjoy sniping bits off robodinosaurs from a long way away and even more so sneaking up on them and making them attack my enemies.

I really couldn't get on with Horizon Zero Dawn at all. Not the combat, the story or acting. It was all the art direction and graphic fidelity that made me play as far as I did (getting to Meridian).
Graphics are the only reason I want to play Horizon 2 at all also, even though I'm sure I'll drop it after a few hours as well.

Has anything beyond marketing hype appeared about Sifu? Like a preview or first impressions or something? It’s really the only imminent game that interests me right now.

There's quite a few pretty lengthy gameplay videos on YouTube. Haven't really seen much to read about it though. Although I rarely visit games websites much now.

I’ve finally got around to playing the Frozen Wilds DLC for Horizon in an attempt to get myself ready for the sequel. Very much enjoying it, but i do feel like the difficulty has been ramped up a fair bit. Maybe I’m rusty, but some of the mid-size dinos are proving quite tough.
One thing I do like is the snow - the way you leave tracks after wading through a drift is really well done. There are also some satisfying (if quite easy) puzzles and the lip syncing is better than I remember from the main game. Plays beautifully on the PS5 too.
It definitely has me looking forward to the next game - I think I’ve had just the right amount of time between them to now be looking forward to the new game and if this DLC hits the estimated 10 hour mark, I think I’ll still be ready for more.
Also: Elden Ring I’m definitely not ready for, but it looks ace so I’m getting that too.
To be fair, I probably won’t need to buy any more games for a while!

killerbee Frozen Wilds is more difficult by design I'm sure, so it's not just you. I'm a big fan of Horizon but I'm probably not all that hype for the sequel too. Maybe that will change as we get closer, but it sort of looks like more of the same. No bad thing for me, but also nothing to shout about. Though that said I've actually not followed a lot of prerelease material so maybe they've shaken things up more than I expect. Also Horizon does have great combat and you're wrong if you disagree so there

I couldn't get into Frozen Wilds as it just felt more of the same, with a less engaging story. That's the thing I enjoyed the most out of Horizon was the story, and how it all came to be. I'm just not really that bothered by the sequel, as I feel the story that was told was as good as it could get.

Everyone's going on about 2022 being a huge year for gaming, but off the top of my head the only thing I'm genuinely, frothingly, day-one excited for is Lego Star Wars. Starfield looks cool too, but that's it. Happy for everyone else though!

Yeah. 2020 and 2021 were big for me. 2022 is mostly just Gran Turismo.
