Not sure where else to put this
My smart home speaker (Amazon Alexa) has started doing autoplay adverts when I walk into the room and make enough noise that it knows I’m there. Is this a thing now?
I just got a fucking Zoo Tycoon advert on the kitchen Echo Show when I walked into the kitchen. I know I probably agreed to it in some wall of text software agreement but still, fucksake

That's why I'm dead against getting any of those smart speakers. It's always what the end game was going to be with them.

Likely a random rogue skill that has been enabled imo. Bet one of your kids has added one that has that "feature".

TLDR: you might not need to replace both batteries when your blink doorbell goes off.
The batteries in our blink doorbell have run flat for the second time. First time lasted 10 months but this time they only lasted 7. I purchased some new lithium batteries (bookmarked in prep) and happened to read a comment suggesting that the doorbell cams only seem to run down a single battery and then go off.
Decided to purchase a tester and true enough, only one battery needed replacing.

I don't know if this is the most appropriate thread for smart home questions, but does anyone have any Philips Hue bulbs?
I have 3 Hue bulbs, and I simply want to add 1 bulb to Google Home so I can "hey google" voice activate it, but I can't for the life of me find a way of adding it to Google Home.
I've tried pretty much everything I've read online, but nothing will make my bulbs discoverable on the Google Home app... some people say you need buy the Hue Hub, some people say you don't, and I don't want to have to buy a Hub for a single bulb, especially as the bulb had the "Google Home" logo on the box.
Any advice would be most welcome at this point because I've wasted hours so far.

(Removed stuff about Hue app - i was wrong)
So you've followed this?
edit:The Q&A in that is bloody good. Miles ahead of the usual crap you get.

So you've followed this? Cheers Dougs, didn't find that thread! You're right, I've tried discovering my bulb using the Hue App, even moving my Google Nest Hub into my front room directly next to my lamp (which can apparently make a difference) but still nothing. I've tried factory resetting the bulb and removing it from the Hue app altogether, but that didn't work. I was starting to suspect Philips have removed the ability for their bulbs to communicate with Google Home unless you're using the Hue Bridge... that was until I spent last week in a holiday cottage with Hue bulbs integrated into a Google Home with no Hue Bridge in sight, so it must be possible. Edit - Sorry, I've been incorrectly calling the Hue Bridge the "Hub". Yep I've followed that guide, and they work fine via the Hue app & bluetooth.

Have you tried to add them via the Google Home app on your phone? So Google Home - Devices - Add - Works with Google Home - Philips Hue - enter your credentials etc..
Ah sorry, that's what the link states!

Yeah tried that, logged into my Hue account, then it returns to the Google Home app and says something like "Philips Hue cannot be found at this time" or similar.
I think that's the way you add bulbs via the Hue Bridge. In the Hue app there's an "Add voice assistant" option which then fires up a wizard in the Google Home app, but then never finds the bulb.

Thanks for that, but that's actually one of the first things I found, and where I read about factory resetting the bulbs, which seems to be key.
I've got a bit further this evening. If I factory reset the bulb, then in the Google Home app select 'Add > Google Nest or partner device' (instead of selecting 'Add > Works with Google Home') it actually detects the bulb, allows me to select it (it even flashes to confirm selection) and then rename it... But unfortunately it just hangs when setting up the bulb. I've repeated this around 20 times with no luck. Grrr.

Has anyone had experience of a motion-sensing porch light interferring with a Ring doorbell? I read that 'PIR' sensors in the light can interact with the IR sensor of the Ring in negative ways.

I have a Hue lightbulb, but by the time my Bluetooth connects I may as well have just gotten up and turned it off at the switch.
