I noticed a few texture issues in the town.
It's crazy how much they've taken influence from Twin Peaks, especially the sign, café and sheriffs office.

Think I'm getting near the end as the game told me I was kind of at the point of no return as saga. Back to Alan!

With Alan, it’s difficult to discern what’s a threat and what’s an illusion

Apparently just shining your torch on them (not focussing the beam) should make non-threats disappear.
I chewed through batteries way too quickly in my last Alan section as I didn't realise that and was focussing the beam on every fucker.

I find (most) of the ones that attack have a weapon in their hand(s). But yeah I was the same. I really love both parts but I slightly prefer sagas side of the game.

Heh. I tried to pass through one and it threw me to the floor. Triggered the police car trying to reach Caldera St and had to leg it from that mob. Apparently there was an Echo nearby, but I couldn’t see it…

Tried to burn every shadow that was there only to realise most of them weren't a threat.

Doesn't seem to work now like it did in the first game. I have to focus the light on them.

Thing is with remedy games is the more ammo etc you use the more ammo you'll find when looting. On hard it's less ammo to make it more survival horror which I prefer. But yeah if you blast through your shotgun ammo you'll start finding more shotgun ammo. This isn't facts but after playing every remedy game and usually a few play throughs this is almost definitely true. Their lockers and drawers etc loot are not the same and depend on what you need most .

Lots of games do this I’ve noticed, if you don’t use any ammo you’ll also not find much. I think last of is does it as well.

Sounds like it uses the same 'adaptive difficulty' system RE4 pioneered back in the day - always liked that.

Yeah loads of games do it now. Still struggle getting into that mindset though. I don't find any, so don't use it. hence don't get any! Need to start blasting away like a motherfucker. In this particularly I've opened lots of boxes that are empty, and I know they would have contained ammo or batteries etc otherwise, if I'd actually used any.

The only problem with the adaptive drops stuff is that when you know it's happening being at low ammo suddenly stops feeling so problematic because you know you only need to make it to the next container and you'll probably find plenty. And yeah, in Alan's chapters, you can use your non boosted torch beam to work out what's an enemy and what's not, but it's not totally obvious still. The non-enemy ones seem to get less passive as the game goes on too. And they mix in ones that are half-not enemy and half-enemy as well, they'll attack you but if you focus torch them they still disappear. I quite liked it, keeps you on edge.

Just seen you can get this for £33 in Xbox via the Icelandic store. Seriously tempted but have only just started Dead Space and kinda want a couple more patches to land.

There's the whole fact Alan is an anagram of anal too, which was heavily referenced in the second half of American Nightmare iirc.

Hey braintrust firing this up in a bit, Quality or Performance mode? What say you? Started in quality, frame rate dropped in a section appallingly, went to performance. As with every game with this option, starting in 30fps is fine but once you've seen it in 60 FPS you brain can't stand going back.

I'm playing in quality on PS5. There are frame drops but it's such a slow game it doesn't matter. Mind you I haven't seen how it compares to Performance. I just haven't bothered to check. Normally I'm a 60fps bastard these days as well. This is fine though.
