At least EG are doing something a bit different with their reviews, you can get a ton of more traditional reviews elsewhere if preferred, or read a few.
Not that I necessarily find them a great read, but the scoring often ends up on the right side of history when others are fawning over the latest big thing.

I'm not sure this is fact but be careful not to progress too far in one characters story. I'm pretty certain I missed a level because once I switched and decided I didn't want to do it so ibloaded the quicksave from one minute earlier and carried on with the same character
I then completed the chapter then switched and the other characters story was not the same...

I've only just starting playing, however I am really impressed with just how good the lighting looks. Looking down the road in the first town and inside the diner was genuinely amazing. It felt like a true generational leap.
I'd say the performance is really good considering the presentation. You're definitely able to tweak it down to whatever suits your GPU, and it still looks fantastic. I'm getting 120fps at 4K, albeit with DLSS Quality and Frame Generation cheating a wee bit.

See this makes me panic. I can do either Sagas story or Alan’s now. I’ve gone with Saga for the moment and currently in a delightfully foggy fairground. Is it better to juggle then? So maybe switch to Alan before I finish her part? |

After Chapter 5 you can switch between characters, and then each character has a Point of No Return. I don't think you can miss anything - you have to play both - but the order you do so is up to you.

Yeah I assume you wouldn't miss a level but 100% when I changed to Alan after completed a whole saga chapter where I took over as Alan was totally different level.

I've got to say though, despite my gripes about the lack of combat... The combat that is there is definitely harder and more memorable. So maybe I don't mind so much as the encounters are more intense. It probably works better that you're not mowing down people to the extent you were doing so in AW1. Alan must have killed the population of Bright Falls three times over in that. The fairground bit that I was doing this morning was just sublime.

Hu, controller ran out of juice, and then the game crashed. And my charger just crapped out too, I hear sparks when I plug the mains in. Guess I’ll be soldering instead of playing tonight.

About three hours in and bugger me this is great. Playing on PS5, hard pressed to think of a better looking game. Maybe Horizon. But either way it's a great achievement.

I'm still not totally on board with Saga's pinboard and when you need to actually add stuff to it in order to move forward, or when it can just be ignored. She autofilled one of the case files earlier and it was absolutely glorious to watch.
It's an excellent game so far aside from that. The third(?) weapon you find as Saga is great fun. Just need to find more lunchboxes to get the other upgrades for it.

This is one of the best survival horror games I've played if you could label it as such. I'd recommend it on hard. I did the first few chapters on normal but after that hard and the scrounging for another flare or shell adds even more stress. |

If there's a gold icon on the bottom left of your screen while you're not actively examining something, you can just ignore it and let it autofill later. If it's there while you're walking around though, it means you need to visit the board or interrogation thingy manually.
I've actually found it fairly buggy - the first boss broke on me entirely, and just refused to die after about 20 pistol rounds and 10 shotgun blasts at the end of the fight. Leading up to it the game broke by not showing a cutscene after an interaction and then not letting me interact again. Last night it stopped letting me access my inventory twice, including once during a boss fight. And just now the scene switching stuff in Alan's story has straight up stopped working for me. Bit frustrating.
I've also noticed that if you use a flare to escape an enemy grapple as Alan then it'll use all of them in your inventory in one go instead of just one, and also that the shoebox will eat your items - if you have a stack of one item that stacks to 2 in your inventory, and drag a stack of two over it from the shoebox, and there's no space in your inventory for the other to move to, instead of putting it in the shoebox it seemingly just destroys it completely.

Only p.t. in recent years has had me more stressed. P.t. was just horrific I could barely play it, shame it was never made into a full but short game.

I'm not finding it scary in the slightest but it's very fucking cool. Just reached the trailer park with Saga this morning. I'm only having little half hour chunks in the morning or night to juggle between this and LotF so it's going to be painstakingly slow progress. Still can't get over how amazing it looks. I'm actually warming to the Mind Place stuff as well. I'm getting in the habit of popping back there and piecing bits. I still think it's unnecessary faff but it's a nice touch and helps solidify what's going on and remind you of why you're doing what you're doing.

Boss fights are pretty gash in this so far...
End of chapter music has been a bit disappointing so far too. It could do with a banger like in dreams or space oddity.
