Anyone getting Sol Cresta from Platinum Games? I took a chance and went for the LRG physical so who knows when I will get it.

I do wish Octopath had been 5 or 6 characters instead. I felt like I had my fill around the 40 hour mark, but pushed on for an extra 40 just to finish everyone's story. It definitely out stayed its welcome. I had the opposite experience. I did have moments of fatigue but when the additional classes opened up I really enjoyed building different teams and it breathed a huge amount of life into the back half

Anyone getting Sol Cresta from Platinum Games? Not at that release price, and I say that as a Platinum Games fan.

Yeah, that's way too much for a shoot em up game.

If you had/have a 3DS or Wii U and linked your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account you can now get an infographic based on your recorded play time between 26/02/2011 and the end of February 2020.

148 hours played on Wii U... Sounds about right.
51 hours of BotW
Seems to be missing some stuff that I definitely played like Rayman Legends (Trine 2 and Shantae are my most played platformers despite me never even playing them iirc)

We seem to have been conditioned in the west that they are only compilation fodder and budget releases. It did help that the physical is a lot closer priced to the digital than a lot of LRG games now and that by the time we get it it should be nicely patched up. Actual new Japanese Shmups seem to be even more niche than they used to be with us mostly getting rereleases or older ports (one notable exception being the new Cotton game). I imagine the digital version will have hit a sale or two by the time the physical ships though.

460 hrs on Wii U, with 196 of those being Xenoblade X. Makes sense. My Wii U bricked at the start of the pandemic too while trying to download an update. I'd probably have another 200 on a second playthrough otherwise.
116 with 25 hours in Tales of the Abyss for 3DS. I can't tell if that's accurate or not, but I've never been much of a handheld gamer. So maybe?

Anyone jumped from the lite to the oled? Dunno if I should stick with the lite for now until whatever version of the next switch comes out.

Not gonna lie, people getting hyped over the Steam Deck is making me want to pick up an OLED Switch. I have the launch model though, so it seems like less of a jump than it would be coming from a Lite, where at least damagedinc would get the benefit of TV play which he's currently missing.
Good thing they're still pretty hard to come by, I guess, because knowing my luck, the moment I picked up the new model, they'd just go an announce the Super/Pro/U model everyone's been waiting for.

Yeah I didn't think I would be bothered by the lack of option to Dock but it's a nice thing to have.
Might just go for it. Do you have to connect the consoles to transfer the data?

Just power, they transfer wirelessly.
The OLED is a nice upgrade, imo. I went from a standard launch model to OLED and the screen is much nicer.

I bought Xenoblade 2 at launch and was loving it until I hit what for me was a difficulty spike. It was the dual boss fight in Chapter 3 with the nerdy samurai in glasses and his Bob's Big Boy (very regional reference) pointy haircut having friend. I forgot their names already, it's been so long. I had kept trying to come back a few times over the years, but I'd forgotten how to work the combat system so I'd only take about a quarter of their HP before wiping.
I decided I might have to replay from the beginning so I can learn the combat again if I wanted to complete it before Xenoblade 3 drops... but before I did that, I had to make one more attempt at that boss fight, so I wouldn't have to redo the 30 hours I'd already played from scratch. Go through the menus looking for a tutorial so I can be refreshed on the mechanics... couldn't find them. Okay, I guess I'm going in blind.
First try, wiped at just about the same 1/4 HP chipping. I was certain that I didn't get the press A to revive party members prompt either, so it had me confused on how to keep them alive.
Second try, same thing, Nia and Tora fall, but this time I try pressing the + button to see if I could go into a menu screen that'd let me use items like in most RPGs. No. BUT. I see it does the big super chain attack. Okay! After that, I notice the A to revive prompt on Tora. A little too late, but now I've got it. It's clicked.
Third try comes, I'm steamrolling them. I'm better at cycling in the hookshot potion move mid-combo, I'm watching Nia and Tora's HP to keep them from falling, but staying close to help them up if they do, I'm triggering the super chain attack while they're alive. It's beautiful. Bosses smashed.
I don't quite remember what happened in the story prior, and I hope I find a cutscene recap option hidden in one of the menus, but I'm glad to be back. I always kind of regretted not finishing this game.
I still need a port of X though, cause it's the best one. ๐

I've completed it and very little of your post made sense to me
Going back to what you said about not liking turn based combat, I'm really enjoying it in Octopath Traveler. One thing that really puts me off modern JRPGs is their need to try and make combat more action focused. It always feels awkward and experimental. The combat in Xenoblade 2 from my memory is basically just watching meters and pressing button prompts

I had to force myself to stop playing Xenoblade 2 after 130 hours, just so I could find time to play anything else. I loved every minute of it though.
I'm not sure if I'll be buying 3 on launch day though. As much as I love the series, there's already so much coming out this year and I can only squeeze in so many RPGs in a single year.

It's been a while so I might be remembering wrong but it felt so weird to me that Xenoblade 2 kept introducing new battle mechanics seemingly well into the story while Xenoblade 1 basically explained the whole battle system (apart from the Vision mechanic) by the time you finished Shulk's first battle and chain attacks not long after, and everything past that was character-specific hints or (might as well tag this) "Hey, the Monado can now cut Faced Mechon too!" I still greatly enjoyed both of them mind you but I can see how 2's battle system might put people off

Also @spookyxelectric you may have found this already but there should be a cutscene viewer in the title screen menu if you want to get caught up. Probably only has the actual cutscenes, not the "stand around and talk"-type scenes, but should be good enough for a refresher on the important stuff

They did overcomplicate things. I agree. Now that I seem to recall a lot of it, it's become more manageable but even just looking at the UI, it's one of the loudest games when it comes to systems and navigation. Even getting around is kind if a pain, and the map doesn't do much to help if you get lost.
I really think X did the best job of evolving the original's formula without going over the deep end like 2 did.
And you got giant Gundam transformers that turn into race cars.

I felt like I was on top of the world when I got my beginner Skell... Then a level 40something... thing sent it to the scrapheap and I remembered my place and bought a proper one Felt pretty great once I eventually made the (again, might as well) Ares 90 and blasted the bugger apart though And flying over Sylvalum at night was quite beautiful too

Xenoblade will go down as a gaming regret for not continuing. I liked the 20-25 hours I played but I could never get on with the combat.. always felt I was doing something wrong despite numerous tutorials. It's out of the collection now and I have no intention of going back. It's under the carpet IT NEVER HAPPENED.

Fwiw if you're planning on getting 3 you'll probably need to at least watch the cutscenes from the first two at some point otherwise you'll most likely be completely lost... From the trailer alone (just in case), between Mechonis' sword being pretty clearly visible in some areas (I think the world is even called the "Land Pierced by a Great Sword" or thereabouts by the Vandham lookalike), Gormotti and High Entia people both seemingly present and most crucially Melia and Nia (if not them, they look very similar) both there as the masked characters near the end and apparently on opposing sides, to boot it's pretty obvious they're going for a unified timeline/setting now, possibly far into the future (High Entia and Nia, for... spoilery reasons, are both long-living after all) Xenoblade X still seems to be its own thing so far though... wonder if they'll find a way to pull that in, so many unanswered questions in that game that so far they've done nothing with

I'm nearly finished Link's Awakening - I'm just on the Eagle (?) tower .which is by far the most complex and confusing dungeon I've faced. I've enjoyed it in the most part - it's got that classic charm and the visuals are brilliant. But it also feels a bit antiquated in parts and is missing some QOL improvements you'd expect in a more modern game. There are also points where I've had no idea what to do next. But that might be more to do with me than the game
