Caved and bought Arceus earlier today. First Pokémon I will have played since Crystal on the GB colour!

Maybe our relative lack of experience will help. So many longtime players seem to jaded with Pokémon.

I see Pokemon the same way I look at Assassins Creed - I played one and enjoyed it but don't see me ever wanting to go through the routine again

I had sex once and although it was really great, I thought I don't want to go through that again. Plus last time it cost me my house and pension. At least assassin's creed only cost me £10 and 100 hours. 🙂

Having sex doesn't take 100 hours of performing menial tasks that by the end of you're a bit sick of. If it did, I probably wouldn't have done that more than once either

Ironic, how sex comes up in the handheld thread.

Oh, also, have a look a Vagante if you think a little hidden rogue-lite gem might be to your liking. 2D platform rpg sort of game, tough as dehydrated, vacuum-sealed balls.

Haven't played a Pokemon game in ten years, so I'm interested, but part of me just CBA with the grind.

Just started Arceus. Enjoying the atmosphere. I’ve heard so much about how awful the game’s graphics are but I like the look of it myself. The art style carries it. Having said that I’m the kind of gamer that just increasingly does not care about graphics anymore. I hardly use my PS5 and sometimes wonder why I bothered, other than getting suckered by hype.

I'm more concerned with the performance than graphics. Sword/Shield was utterly woeful when you got to the big outdoor areas.

Just started Skyward Sword (first temple done) and it's great. Makes more sense why I didn't get on with BoTW; there was no Zelda in my Zelda game Oh how the turn tables

Taking a trip down memory lane, Danno?
To be fair, playing SS did allow me to appreciate the freedom of BotW more. I don't think BotW is better than other Zelda games but it does sit beside them proudly and justly
I still haven't finished it

Arceus turned up this morning and i'd forgotten the GAME version comes with a steelbook too. I've got a couple of them now. Hopefully they'll be worth something in a few years or i can trade them for half of an Ape jpeg for my retirement.

Yeah, it's not too far off from Breath of the Wild, visually. Just started, myself. Chose Rowlet as my starter.

Disappointed that Beyond A Steel Sky looks really bad docked. Lots of pop in and bad textures… handheld is just about ok.

On a whimsical whim (honestly, is there any other type?), I picked up a little game on deep discount, called “Depth of Extinction”. Picture a stripped down Xcom-lite with FTL: Faster Than Light elements, within a roguelite structure. Surprisingly, it’s really quite fun. Recommended.
I’m bouncing between this, Vagante and Skul:The Hero Slayer, all of which are great fun for rogue-lite/like masochists, such as myself.

I've got a few steelbooks for switch games and they just feel like a waste of shelf space. Surely they could skip the plastic case rather than giving you both?... Don't really want to chuck the plastic case and at the same time don't really want to take the plastic wrap off the steelbook in case it's ever worth something (unlikely)

If a game sells millions, the steel case is worthless. And either way its always in addition to the original packaging, so most folk who want to buy a steel case just want the steel case, not the actual game that comes with it.
I have 3 steel books and I wasn't expecting to own any.

I had the Madonna steel book when it came out.
Not gaming-related as such.

I've got her "Sex" book still sealed in its packet somewhere in the attic myself. Sadly is not interested anywhere near as much as I thought it would in value.

Last time I checked (about a year ago) it was only about £50. Considering I bought it in 1996 or something, it's hardly a stunning return on investment. I should have been buying N64 cartridges.

Arceus really does look awful. And I say this as someone that usually isn’t fussy about graphics but it’s so extreme here. For example in the village there is so little motion, nearly everything is static, with people standing around like statues. Indoors are so sparse it looks like people have only just moved in. In the field the draw distance is outrageously bad for an open world game, with Pokemon popping into view in front of you.

I need a bit of advice, please.
I have a spare Switch, the Lite. I want to give it to my gf and play two player games with her online (I’ll be on my own OLED Switch).
I have my games installed on both devices, but is there any way that she can play the games I’ve bought, on the Lite?
E.G, is there a family thing I can do to share a game and play online with her, without her buying that same game I’ve already bought?
Thanks

But... you can't play the same games at the same time. The main console will load games automatically, but the second console will check who the licence belongs to before hand. If the main console is playing the same game it will refuse to load. If the main console boots up the game after the second console, the game will force close on the second console after explaining so via a message.
