Yeah I'm happy for him to pop up every Boxing Day to commentate World Strongest Man. Seems to be the only time I notice him now. His books and articles did get old quite quickly though.
Dave Gorman is fine too. Quite enjoyed his series on Dave.

Dave Gorman's mate and average novelist is all I know about him. Not sure what the ire is about, but this is the thread for it, so 🤷♂️ For me he's always come across as incredibly smug. I remember when he used to write a column for the free men's magazine Shortlist that you'd always get a the train station and it was some of the weakest, written on a Sunday night trudge (even for Shortlist). Gorman I just don't find funny at all, obviously comedy is subjective and he doesn't raise a smile out of me. It took me a little while (but longer than I would like) to get out of the brain loop of "Huh, there a magazine called Shortlist aimed at free men. I wonder what that means". Fuck sake. |

Bear Grylls always makes me think of Ross Kemp’s character in Extras telling Ricky Gervais what SAS stands for.
I think also think its unfair to lump Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace together. Gorman has done plenty of interesting shows and written some fun books. Wallace is a smug columnist who only got a break from his early association as Gorman’s old flatmate.
If I remember correctly they fell out after Are You Dave Gorman or Googlewhack because Wallace ran off with Gorman’s girlfriend.

He doesn't wear the hat anymore (though his little cartoon stand-in does). He's been pretty upfront about it being a mistake, but hey, he was younger and dumber and thought it looked cool.
I like him just fine. The grumpy schtick gets old when he's doing a podcast or something, but in short 5-minute bursts it's ok.
