It’s weird but at the time as long as you weren’t going the full Black & White Minstrel, it was basically overlooked. I think you can thank social media for the sea change as it became a hell of a lot easier to call people out on it.
What’s happening now is just a case of chickens coming home to roost. For years, Walliams has been a cunt backstage to everyone he sees as beneath him, and the old adage is true: the people you meet on the way up are the same you meet on the way down. And they’re only too happy to put the boots to him now.
It was the same with Richard Keys and Andy Gray. Sky Sports couldn’t wait to get shot of them. They just needed a reason.

Yeah it doesn’t look great. Really weird to look back on.
Even weirder Come Fly with Me was green lit for a second series. It only got cancelled because Lucas and Walliams had plenty of work and couldn’t be arsed with it. No one raised any objections internally. Mental.
That whole era feels really spiky now. Even watching old seasons of South Park I squirm a bit the way they use words like “fag” so casually. And if it wasn’t edgy, now basically unacceptable humour, it was middle of the road shit like famous racist Jim Davidson hosting The Generation Game.
And the soundtrack to it all was Limp Bizkit. It was, indeed, the worst of times.

Lee Mack. Never seen anything of him or his material (other than 1 minute of the royal variety tonight which made me want to punch the TV) My dislike mainly fueled by the weird persona he uses when hosting The 1% quiz show.
Zero warmth, unfunny, strangely aggressive and utterly obnoxious. The most bizarre choice of host for a quiz show I can remember.
