It seems like it's an attempt at a joke, but that he's not realised (due to all the drugs he's been on, no doubt) that Keanu Reeves has since become a treasure rather than the butt of a chandler-esque joke.

I was going to say, is it because Reeves is everything Perry wants to be; nice, popular and still relevant.

I think a lot of people with a dubious moral compass have learned that there's a lot more to gain by being an insufferable cunt who plays dumb l, dropping 'truth bombs' about socialism and how doing your own research will set you free. Strangely enough though it's something that I'm seeing a lot from people of colour taking these stances because it's all about the fucking grift. I think with a lot of them it’s about the grift to start off with, but they then full on brainwash themselves with all the far right content that is freely available if you just set your mind free…

I went to Matthew Perry’s play in the west end. Fuck me that was uninspired: stop me if any if this sounds familiar. - Set in New York, in a top floor apartment in what looks like Greenwich Village. - Matthew Perry’s character has a best friend named ‘Joe’, a lovable doofus. - Every scene change accompanied by a musical sting on guitar. - Six friends all working through their own problems. And then it falls apart completely, nobody’s plotline was resolved apart from Perry’s and it ended with him literally monologuing to the audience about his alcohol dependency. To a standing ovation, of course. Useless fucking twaddle at £100 a ticket.

Is he the guy that’s enabling the Masked Singer? That should basically be an offence that carries a life sentence.

Throwback to the time Norm Macdonald deliberately threw Matthew Perry’s sketch on SNL and became the best thing in it. SNL sucks so badly it’s hard to actually tell that’s happening. It’s absolutely excruciating.

Probably one for the unpopular opinions thread, but yeah, SNL is complete and utter shite.

Probably one for the unpopular opinions thread, but yeah, SNL is complete and utter shite. Is it an unpopular opinion? I mean I watched that clip and was waiting to see what the brilliant bit was. All I saw was some recognisable comedians awkwardly looking towards the audience to check they were laughing at their bits.

It’s always come across as self indulgent shitty improv to me. Never seen the appeal or the humour

SNL is basically a Petri dish for the industry. Throw as much shit on the wall as you can and see if any of it sticks. In practice, very little does.
Norm’s best stuff was on Conan. That joke about feeding the baby dolphins? Perfect.

I went to Matthew Perry’s play in the west end. On purpose? Ironically, that would be perfectly on-brand for a Chandler joke. Remember that monologue "play" he roped the others into going to see, only to bolt out on them as soon as it started?

Yeah, SNL hasn’t been any good for years. Norm was the last best thing in it because he absolutely did not give a shit most of the time. Also that clip has some extra context as he hated Matthew Perry. There’s an anecdote about how Lorne Michaels was singing Perry’s praises and called him a genius, and Norm asked “why? Is he good at math(s) or something?”

I have to be honest, not really. I'm culturally aware of Friends, but I have never watched it. Basically, Joey had got everyone tickets to a play in order to avoid having to invite them to a Days Of Our Lives roof party at their building. Eventually everyone found out about the party and went there instead... except Chandler was out of the loop, and was forced to endure said play. At the end of the episode he gets them all to come and see it with him, BSing about what a life-changing experience it was... then runs out, leading to the GIF. My joke being that Chandler/Perry directly or indirectly influencing someone to watch a play (that apparently was pretty bad) is pretty fitting
