I'm not sure that's very balanced, it's certainly not the perception I got reading it. I did find that review from a quick Google, including them posting it on a Melvins fan-forum which they are a member of, so maybe they have a bit of bias there (but then I am/was a big fan of Asa/ShitKid - so guess I am biased too). --edit-- This is the post I mentioned - with another take from a Melvins fan at the bottom of the page - www.themelvins.net/forum/index.php?topic=22416.90

John Wayne.
He was a racist, homophobic, McCarthy-ite bell-end who had to be restrained from attacking a woman at an Oscars, and I'll just assume he was insecure about being a short-arse whose real name was Marion.
I am still shocked, that even by the standards of the time, that Wayne got away with being just such a profound and total shitbird, yet remained a sort of cultural icon, who honestly, it feels like a lot of his own characters would have beaten the shit out of him lol. He really wasn't that much of an outlier, even by the 60s. Hollywood and the studio heads were all still pretty much Republicans then, it took until the 70s for Hollywood to be thought of as liberal and 'Hollyweird'. People such as Frank Capra, who we sort of think of as this creator of wistful Hollywood everyman dreams, was as right-wing and commie-hating a fucker as has ever walked the earth.

She sold it direct, and has quit the music business since then so doubt it's available anywhere. I guess as it's not in print I could take some pics of it, it's not exactly big
I'd certainly be interested to read it, but please don't put yourself out on my account.
I found the review Danno posted - also via the Melvins forum you mentioned - and it was an interesting read.

Yeah, people used to get shitty about say Marlon Brando or Jane Fonda talking about civil rights back in the day.

Fair point about him being a Melvins fan

I mean, I know punknews thinks neither of them is the asshole, but reading that, Osborne is a huge fucking asshole of a really shitty kind, because he deciding he's the expert on what's "feminist" or not. That certainly fits with him being such a giant moron that he non-ironically used the "National SOCIALISM!!!!" take re: the Nazis, which doesn't work on anyone with an IQ over 80 if they're older than like, 14. Especially when he "wins" the argument by trying to suggest that because ShitKid mentioned the image was of an idealized woman, they were "not being feminist" because they suggested there was such a thing as an "idealized" female form. I mean jesus christ what is this guy, 12? This is sort of logic that even schoolkids sneer at.

The thing that gets me about John Wayne was that he was a coward. Dodged the draft by using Hollywood as an excuse, and yet remembered as an all-American war hero in film.

Yep, especially when actual genuine Hollywood heroes like Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable were flying sorties over Germany.

Thanks!
Yeah, Buzz is an asshole. He could've let it be after "It's down now", already having made his displeasure known, but then he had to go back with "I think you're seriously overreacting, but whatever."
I seem to recall that Tom Hazelmyer is a twat as well, but I'm buggered if I have the energy to do some Googling in order to remind myself why!

The kicker there for me is the "I believe in artistic freedom" at the end there. I mean okay fine, if it's just their project, but if the collaborative artist has brought up the fact that they don't approve of the direction, you need to respect that, at least in regards to that project.
I lowkey admire the pettiness of calling the EP "Old Men and Young Girls" in relation to that DM convo though. It's shitty, but I mentally chuckled.

Yep, especially when actual genuine Hollywood heroes like Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable were flying sorties over Germany. Well Jimmy Stewart had a famously big dick, so he must have had massive balls. Also spent a good amount of time on film sets wanking away in his dressing room.

Also, John Ford (who directed a lot of Wayne's pre- and post-WWII flicks) totally did have balls of steel and was injured filming the Japanese attack on Midway when he wouldn't take cover when being strafed by Zeroes. deadline.com/2019/11/midways-bravura-john-ford-moment-was-understated-1202784428/So pretty much everyone around Wayne was serving during WWII, but not the Duke. He was probably too busy milking his cow that he famously kept on the balcony of the Sunset Tower apartment.

Just in general, or is he back on his bullshit again? I’ve not heard anything recent, but I was disappointed to discover what a twat he is. “Never meet your heroes” and all that.

Just can't stand the guy for a list of reasons. God-bothering, homophobia, conspiracy-theory peddling, anti-mask ranting, general ignorance, plus at the moment it seems like he's content to use publicity photos that are about ten years out of date so as to appear younger.

Speaking of musicians whose names belong in this thread, Tom Araya has long struck me as a helmet of epic proportions.
