Anyone been to the The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience in London? A VR thing, excellent reviews by all accounts, I would love to go if wasn't for those pesky kids and living 200 miles away.

Couple of people at work booked it, I was very tempted, but sticking vr sets on your face didn't seem very covid safe.
I saw the stage show a few years ago and that was phenomenal, lots of lasers!

Just seen Dracula at The Lowry - Really excellent with cameras capturing the actors live and projecting them onto a screen as a comic book style montage.

Has anyone tried any of the online theatre channels like the National Theatre one? I'd like to expand the types of plays I watch but I can't really justify the expense of a proper theatre trip to the RSC or London every month.

I watched a few of the freebies during lockdown and they were ok, but in the same way as watching a band live, lacking that visceral something. The Dracula thing I mentioned can be streamed for a tenner.

Funny story. Me and my girlfriend found tickets going for a show called Brian and Roger, which the blurb informed us was a staged version of the podcast S-Town with a Q&A at the end with the creator of the podcast. All for £10 a ticket. Sounded great so booked the tickets, despite not recalling anyone called Roger in the podcast. Day before the show we checked the website again and the description on the ticket site had changed to say it was actually a two man show about two divorcees. Nothing to do with S-Town at all.
Despite being mislead about the tickets we still went as it was a tenner and why not. Lo and behold it was very good. Really well staged. One of the guys was Angelo Epithemiou from Shooting Stars. Playing at the Menier Chocolate factory in Southwark if anyone is interested.

Me and some friends went to see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern ... Survived? which was a weird alternate version of the Stoppard play, but we were literally the only members of the audience.
If we hadn't turned up they wouldn't have performed that night at all, but as we turned up they had to do the whole show for 3 people.
Luckily the show was funny and we did our best at being an attentive audience, but I've never seen a show with that poor a turn out.

I knew a guy who had a son that was in a load of London theatre things, he used to go to the shows then get the vip treatment.
Although he enjoyed meeting the famous people, the main thing he went on about was that half the women walk around naked in the changing rooms, even with him there.
Been ages since I’ve been, having kids pretty much killed off the theatre going for now. Maybe in a few years we’ll be able to go again. It’sa Shane school always tries so hard to put anyone off going.

Me and the missus have been surprised with a paid trip to London in December and tickets to see Phantom of the opera. The missus is ecstatic about it, but I've never been to a play before, nevermind musical theatre. I'm dubious of how much I'll enjoy, but I'm open to trying new things. I'm more excited to go to the history museum.

All I can say is try and google when the museum will be at it's quietest and go then, probably getting there for opening on a Monday or something I guess, anything else will be absolute hell in my experience.

Saw “The Shark is Broken” yesterday and it was fucking brilliant.
Funny, smart and actually pretty emotional. It obviously makes a big difference if you’re a fan of Jaws, but the three leads do amazing jobs of mimicking the actors, especially Ian Shaw - it was like his dad was there on stage.
The set is minimal but hugely effective, and at 90 minutes long without an interval, the time whizzed by. I learned new things about the film and there were some cracking contemporary jokes.
The only downside was the theatre itself - far too small and cramped. I’m 5”7 and my knees were crushed against the seat in front. Hopefully it’s a big hit and can move to a more comfortable venue.

We saw Magic Goes Wrong a couple of weeks ago which was great. More of the same (though different characters) if you're familiar with the Mischief Theatre Company. And if you're not, check out the Goes Wrong Show on iPlayer. Very funny stuff.

It's not what I'd personally go to see but if you're new to theatre in general you could do much, much worse. Get a good meal beforehand, prebook your interval drinks, and Enjoy!

Went to the Peaky Blinders immersive experience last night.
Not recommended for people who've never seen Peaky Blinders (probably obvious). It kind of reminded me of playing the 7th Guest, I wandered round aimlessly for a couple of hours, occasionally stumbling on some event playing out that I didn't understand then I broke up and I was left wondering what happened. Actually, maybe it was more like being part of someone else's holodeck fantasy, the people I went with got involved in some events and missions going on and really enjoyed it but I was just left with a feeling of somehow missing out on everything.

The curtains at the Duke of York were all weird when I was there. Like, when they were up, they were up. And when they were down, they were down. But sometimes they were only halfway up, like neither up nor down. Grand old building though. lol. Fuck's sake

I'm seeing Stewart Lee at the Lyceum tonight - does that count as 'theatre'?
