Well, bloody hell.
I was only explaining to the eleven year old the other day that some humans throughout history can be considered "good", no matter what your beliefs are. I mentioned Jesus, Gandhi and the Dalai Lama as examples, and explained that, whilst opinions vary, someone like Mother Theresa may no longer be considered "good" in the light of new evidence against her.
I'll be honest, this news story has shocked me. Do we know how "true" it is?

I’d like to think that as people get older their sense of humour gets weirder, but it’s still really icky.
Gandhi used to sleep naked with his Grandaughters as proof of his celibacy. We would have just taken his word for it.

I think at some point what we should probably start teaching children (and ourselves) is that the binaries of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ don’t really exist, and that all people are at best flawed even if they try and do good. |
