Seems I've managed to go 50 years without ever having heard of him till today. I am not so sheltered to have never heard of him but I don't think I've ever listened to any of his work.

I knew of him as a radio personality, and had the misfortune of watching part of an episode of chav my ride up. Didn't realise he was still in any way famous.

I knew of him, but not in any detailed way - mainly as the chief inspiration for Ali G, to be honest.

All I know about Westwood is they used to have that "Where's Westwood" bit on the Chris Moyles show.
It was a bit shit.

Literally the only thing I think I know about him is that he was apparently shot, and, from that point, his Radio 1 jingles supposedly featured the odd gunshot sound.
Not sure I’m thinking of the right DJ, actually.

All this "I don't know him" "I've never heard of him" as soon as he's revealed to be a wrong un all seems very suspicious.
I'm watching all of you guys.

He struck me as a parody character at first.
He looks like the manager of a recycling centre in Bolton so when he started speaking like he was from Compton it was a bit jarring.

I used to listen to his radio show in my yoof. Thought he was a black man until I saw his picture. Used to like the mixes he did, which in fact weren't done by him, but another DJ, he was just the front man.

I think he's done a lot to bring awareness of US hip hop to UK listeners and he's quite well respected by a lot of artists, apparently.
However, none of that negates the likelihood that he's a bit of a twat and I'm not entirely surprised by these allegations, tbh. I can't quite put my finger on why, but it seems about right.

He looks like the kind of person that stands too close to you when they talk and whose breath always smells of cheap booze and fags.

There was a time when Westwood was literally the only mainstream radio DJ who played hip hop. I realise that’s probably hard to get your head around these days as Hip Hop is so incredibly mainstream now, but at the time it was pretty brave, and he deservedly gained a lot of respect for doing what he did. I met him a few times in my past life as somewhat being part of the uk hip hop thing and he was an absolute diamond. You’d struggle to find someone more motivated by doing something they really truly believed in, and he was ludicrously generous and supportive of the scene. The news about him being an absolute wrong’un is quite upsetting. Feels a bit like the Rolf Harris thing. I realise he was easy to laugh at, but I genuinely thought he was a force for good. Turns out he’s an absolute cunt

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61245040Tories investigate claims MP watched pornography in Commons chamberNot only that but he was sat next to a female MP while he was doing it! My immediate guess was Boris, obviously, but then realised he's never in the commons. So it's either Fabricant or Mark Francois.

I know you're very into it I didn't know you were involved in some capacity.

Jambowayoh I was at uni in the West Country in the late 90s, and Bristol had its own little hip hop scene which I got really into. We had a little ‘nerdcore’ collective that had a small degree of success. We made a few 12”s and one album that made the UK charts. We were on Westwood a couple of times. We did gigs with most of the big UK names at the time and also a few supporting slots with some bigish American names. Nothing major, and it was back when UK hip hop was super niche before Grime came along and made it properly mainstream.

That's genuinely awesome. I went to UWE around 2002 and I was more into D&B back then but still love hip hop. Would I have heard of you?

Damn. I was based there then, too (although I wasn't there very much). I might have walked past you both in clubs etc.
