My friend used to work at the beeb. Barrowman was someone who people would warn you about before doing shoots - the way he put it I don’t think it was because he was a sex pest, but he would act inappropriately just to get his own kicks. So for example right as cameras went on he’d lean over to someone and say “hey, after this do you wanna suck my cock?” or things to that effect. He was clearly just trying to put people off and it was his idea of a practical joke, but you can see how it didn’t exactly make for an ideal work environment.
I saw a bit of him on SAS and I’m not really sure he understands that. It was all a bit “poor me - they think I’m a sex pest” and then he pulled himself out (ahem) when he got a bit cold. Didn’t do himself any favours.

Combination of people surrounding you because you're famous, wanting attention and trying other things to get more attention, their weird upbringings that made them want the attention of others to validate themselves, previous highs need to be topped so they try pushing boundaries and get little pushback because they're surrounded by people who want to say yes to the talent that's making them money/furthering their career/wants to be recognised by a star etc etc

It's not like a lot of wronguns start doing this shit *after* they're famous. They no doubt did all sorts of things as children/teenagers. Usually most grow out of it/end up in jail/get the shit kicked out of them, but these guys get into a position where they can keep doing these things.

I was gonna say, it's one thing doing juvenile jokes like that when you're at uni and 18 or 20 years old. (I never did stuff like that but I remember a guy in a local Stokey band - Friends of Ken, for anyone who happens to be from there and remembers their promotional stickers everywhere - getting his balls out whilst he ordered a kebab one night). It's another thing entirely doing that kind of shit as a forty something year old man in a professional work environment. It might not be sex pesty but it's fucking stupid.
