There’s a B Side of theirs I still hum to myself every now and then. Can’t remember the title but it goes
Daddy says we gotta go Gotta go to Idaho But we can’t go surfing cos it’s 20 below
That was pretty MOR - but catchy.

Can't understand the appeal of the Foo Fighters. Aural wallpaper. Even their big hits are so meeeeeehhhhhh. The Coldplay comparison is apt.
It's rock music for people that don't like rock music.

It’s mainstream rock. They’re no better or worse than countless other similar bands. I’d have thought the appeal would be fairly obvious, most people just want something that’s catchy and mostly in the background.

So people want something thats catchy that they don’t want to actively listen to?
You’re right. Obvious.

My massive fuck off record and guitar collections would say differently but OK I don’t like rock… They cover a niche that other bands I like don’t, which is pop rock done well and with heart and some energy. From a musical point of view I also like some of the chord work which often has that Rush thing to it, and was a massive fan of Taylor’s drumming. I do think there is a subset of people that are dogmatically opposed to anybody big. For full disclosure I also love the music of Metallica and RHCP from the same periods, and am well aware that I am therefore a basic b*tch. I listened to Deep Purple’s Fireball on the way to and from the office today so I suspect I am also a dad rocker or some sort of early onset Boomer. Anyway, I promise not to type anymore about the Foo Fighters musically, and will focus solely on any of their sex crime stuff, or not as the case may be. But yeah, horses for courses, it sometimes just grates when a pile on emerges about something you love doesn’t it.

I've decided I like them again after seeing how much everyone hates them.

I don't really care about them either way. But I'd listen to them before Nirvana.

Obviously lots of people like them and we all like different things etc.
Plus we're living in the Glorious Days of the Internet, where everyone gives their option on everything and it's all either fucking awesome or fucking abysmal and woe betide you if you like something someone else doesn't. You sir, will be shouted down until you acknowledge you're wrong.

So people want something thats catchy that they don’t want to actively listen to? You’re right. Obvious. A lot of the time, yes. It’s not common for people to just sit and listen to music now. It’s usually in the background or in the car or while working. If it’s catchy then it gets their attention a bit more. You might be different but you’re not most people.

Reviewer As I said above, I'm just twatting about. I do get what you meant. 95% of the music I listen to has no lyrics as I just need to have it on in the background. Can't have silence, can't have words either as they disrupt my thought process (which isn't difficult).

Foo Fighters are no Nickleback I watched about a third of a Nickelback documentary (yes really) on Netflix I think and it was strangely entertaining. I’m going to revisit it for sure.
