You just never know. Knowing what we know now about the likes of Bill Cosby and Rolf Harris, how much of a cunt they appear to be in public is obviously irrelevant.

It seems to be the reverse for a lot of abusers, wherein if they project a very wholesome persona there's some fucked up business going on.

It is mind-blowing what the ultra wealthy think they can (and in reality probably do) get away with. It’s like the Epstein stuff. Just a bubble of horrendously harmful behaviour. It’s chilling to think what people are capable of when they don’t fear punishment. I think it’s the norm that the ultra-wealthy do whatever they want and rely on their money to protect them, and we only see the rare case that makes it into the public sphere.

I’ve always believed (and still do) that most people are fundamentally good, and that a very loud minority give human nature a bad name. Things like this test that belief but I still hold it.

I agree with Karl here Even some people who do “bad” things believe they are doing them for good reasons I expect. Not Vince McMahon though

I think money, wealth and power brings out what's already in you and quite often you have to be a certain kind of person to make it that far anyway. The mrs is regularly in the orbit of C and D level celebs and some of them immediately take the opportunity to just be cunts even at a very, very slightly elevated status.
I do wonder what I would be like with unlimited wealth and power. I don't think I'd be a sex case but I could definitely see me being a proper coke head or something if dealers just turned up at my house. It would be hard to stay on the straight and narrow if you could do pretty much anything consequence free.

I think a lot of what we consider awful behaviour by celebrities comes down to their sense of entitlement. It’s similar to the way the elite classes behave. If you genuinely deeply believe you are special and different and deserve things because of that, your morality shifts accordingly, and suddenly you feel validated in behaviour that most consider immoral.

I think I would be A Good Guy and play it with a fairly straight bat until I made it all the way up to A and then my moral compass would shatter. Ive got a bit of a self destructive and addictive personality so it wouldn't take much. I played the lottery at 18 and if I had won I would 100% have given the lotto lout a run for his money.

Yeah, a lot of people confuse having it with earning it. You see it a lot with people who come from money. Nobody ever seems to consider their high status to be a fluke.

Yeah, and also it’s harder to recognise privilege when you have actually worked very hard. I have a family member who’s a successful lawyer and he has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is, but it was also built on a high level of societal privilege (middle class privately educated white heterosexual male etc) and he is incapable of seeing that.

That's just it - things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. People can work extremely hard to get to where they are but also very much have a leg up compared to others. I would have said you should be able to recognise that and not think it diminishes your achievements. Just provides additional context

Interesting. I also suffer from having an addictive personality that I've really had to work on pretty much all my life, luckily it never crossed over with drugs and alcohol as I don't really drink much and while I've done an array of drugs it's never really got it's hooks into me. I like to think I'd be sensible if I ever came into a life changing amount of money but I really don't know.

Young me would have been the midget throwing, sniffing coke of Margot Robbie's bum rich guy.
Older family me would buy a castle with a moat around it that had crocodiles to keep out the undesirables type of rich guy.

Yeah this, my wife works with C and D (and occasionally A & B) level celebs everyday and most of them turn into utter detached fake (to normal people) twats when they become famous. They basically live in a completely different world to everybody else. I would also go down the same drug route as Nick if I had unlimited wealth and power. The standard joke for me from mates, girlfriends etc. when I played in bands in the 90's was if I made it I would be dead by 30, I fully believed that too. Its good luck really that most of the bands I played in were utter crap

I was in the same room as Lostprophets man, once and a mate of mine has met him a few times at work. Apparently sex criminals are the easiest to manage and most compliant.
But on a serious note - people just shouldn't be in locked rooms with others. Just have everything be a glass house. We'll all get used to seeing genitalia, eventually.
