Sonic 2
An improvement over the first movie, but all too predictable. I think they still have to hit their stride. Maybe third time will be the charm?

Bottoms
Much better than expected though suffers from a few annoyances - main "girl" is waaay too old, the football player looks like Ed Gamble and I can't work out when it's set.
But enjoyable. Fight scenes were quite fun and I actually went along with the psycho ending. Found it a fun send up of "ok well shrug" endings a lot of films do.

The Iron Claw - 8/10
I didn't know the story behind it at all, so that was a fairly wild ride! A great exploration of toxic masculinity. Efron is almost unrecognisable at first, and I guess that explains why Carmy was suddenly so bulked up in S2 of the Bear. Cracking performances all around.

I assume the movie doesn’t cover it but Carmy’s character in real life is the man everyone thought had replaced Ultimate Warrior in the playground rumour that Warrior had died and been replaced by a stand-in at Wrestlemania 8

Also watched Iron Claw (8 out of 10) for me as well.
Didn't know anything about it, and fast-forward thru the fake wrestling parts as they were very cringe, but everything else was great.

Didn't know you were a projectionist?! Did the other film goers not mind you fast forwarding?

Mission impossible: Dead Reckoning
Tom Cruise absolutely fucking pegs it from scene to scene looking confused and showing no chemistry with his female leads. This is despite the fact they are meant to instantly trust him and love him.
A egotistical maniacs film of showing what cool shit he can do. Basically Threat Level Midnight if Michael Scott could do cool shit.

A film about algorithms feeling like it was put together by an algorithm.

A film about algorithms feeling like it was put together by an algorithm. Keanu Reeves: “woah. I know kung fu.”

Finished watching that tonight too, after falling asleep half way through yesterday - had to rewind half of the Venice bit, had no idea how they'd managed to start running about again. Who seriously wants the second half of that? Felt like the bastard child of every single generic action movie from the last 20 years. The grand piano hanging by a strap had me laughing at least.
And why do all these movies have a massive secret rave?

I'm not a big fan of wrestling as a product but man there are plenty of stories to be told, particularly up to the 90s (or even further if we include McMahon being fucking awful).

*sharp intake of breath* The Entity…. Was it the 80's version you watched where a woman gets harassed by an entity?

Don't listen to Bill in the rain Bumblebee is the ONLY decent transformers film. Rise of the Beasts was a load of bollocks. Just watch Bumblebee and be done with it would be my advice. I mean, it's not great, or even particularly good, but it isn't going to make you want to blow your own brains out like the other 4 (5? 6?!)
If bumblebee is a solid 7, Transformers 1 is a 2, and the other transformers movies are a -10, Rise of the Beasts is at least a 4.
I wouldn't watch it if I didn't have kids that were into Transformers I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it, but if they wanted to watch it at least I wouldn't feel a sense of existential dread like when they wanted to watch the one with Dinobots.

Antman and the wasp quantummania:
7/10
Finally got around to watching this, and I quite enjoyed it. I really liked the previous ant man films, they've had good casts, which is continued here. The quantum realm is a bit nuts but I found it enjoyable, nicely demented.
I'm confused as to which Kang is which etc. (I've watched Loki 2, I'm guessing the monologue at the end of quantum is the answer). I could go either way on future Kang stories. Could be good, but equally I'm not really that invested in him.

Operation Scorpio (1992) on Internet Archive: archive.org/details/operationscorpio1992An absolutely bananas martial arts thing, featuring some of the most ridiculous kung fu styles you will ever see in a movie. I remember seeing it at a cinema in the late 90s, and it was an absolute riot. The internet archive version is dubbed, but that almost makes it better. 9/10

Xmen: first class
Its a shame they shit the bed with the reboot films as this was really good and DoFP was execellent (the other students of the xmen were not very well written as it was about them getting their powers and thats it) The setting in the 60's was refreshing, which they drop in the meh 3rd film and the dog shit dark phoenix one. The only dumb thing I can think of its how how they want nukes to go off as they think it will make the mutant race thrive when they would die from the radiation
8.5/10

Transformers 2 3/10
The first half hour is about the same standard as T1, after that it’s an incoherent mess but the effects are ok.

I think First Class might only be behind X2 in the series overall. Its certainly right up there.

The scene in the Argentina bar is pretty much unrivalled in the series.

Transformers 2 3/10 The first half hour is about the same standard as T1, after that it’s an incoherent mess but the effects are ok. 3/10 is generous for that film. It's one of those films where you realise that every shot, every scene, every piece of dialogue was a conscious choice by some people, somewhere and at the end everyone got together and said yeah, let's release this with our name on it. Shout-out to the university where every woman happens to be a model.

3/10 is very fucking generous. I caught a bit of it and...wow. Makes Emmerich's combined filmography look like Hitchcock.

More to the point, are you really going to carry on with the rest of the series now? This has to be some kind of masochism thing...

You can't fully know whether a film is 3/10 unless you watch all of it.
