I read the book years ago and thought it was tremendous, but thought the film was plodding, overlong and more than a tad confusing. Stellar cast and director can't help much. It has its moments butI can't recommend it. Its on Netflix if you want to give it a go

Star Trek V - The Final Frontier - 6/10
The bad wannabe Star Wars scenes on Nimbus III aside, I don't think this film is that bad. It's not good, it clearly lacks the energy and wit from 2 and 4, but it's... ok. Not much else to say, it's just unremarkable. If you're dedicated to watch all of Star Trek, of course you'll have to watch it, but otherwise you can safely skip it.
I’ve seen them, and watched Crimson Tide and Top Gun a couple of weeks ago. I’ve gone with The Meg expecting it to be shit.
It is. It really really is. And I'm completely gay for sharks. I watched something called Great White on Now TV the other day and it was one of the most badly made films I've ever sat through. And I still enjoyed it. Not Meg though.
A couple of weeks ago is ample buffer time for a Crimson Tide rewatch
VERY FINE PEOPLE SIR
Actually I watched that last night in a strange decision where I watched that and Romancing the Stone. Both very different but equally good movies. More points for RTS for Michael Douglas and his quality attire.
I couldn’t make it past 30 minutes of The Meg. I’ve never watched a film with Statham in, he’s like watching Vinnie Jones but worse. Ended up with Lord of the Rings which I’ve only ever seen bits of because each one is 28 hours long.
EMarkM: Will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark?

vicedestroyer: I guess, once the world does its best Waterworld impression, it will be survival of the fittest. Either the boy swims fast or becomes shark tucker.

zagibu: Sharks not only swim fast, they also swim silent. Their scales are called dermal denticles, and they create local swirls around them which reduce the shark's overall drag in water.

zagibu: So even if a boy could swim as fast as a shark, he wouldn't hear them coming.
