Washed down with orange squash in a sippy cup and pre cut apple slices for dessert.

I'm with you on plastic cheese for burgers, but at least butter all the bread and get a decent mature in your sandwich.

I was just lamenting the fact that unless I go to a specialty store I’m stuck with kerrygold or cathedral city for authentic mature cheddars here, but hearing of this travesty of a half buttered medium cheese thing I no longer have those regrets.

Does America not have any decent cheddars?

It has quite a lot of very decent cheese, but it lacks that specific kind of mature cheddar that makes your gums itch with the strength and crumbliness.
The kind that is the only type of cheese acceptable for, say, a nice cheese and pickle sandwich. Or a ploughmans.

Look.
I've been having the same lunch every day in the same exact chair in the same exact room in the same exact job for nearly 10 years.
I've tried it with fancy nature* cheddar, I've tried it with real butter, on both sides of bread, I've tried lots of different breads.
This is the combination that I've landed on after years of honing it to perfection.
*and mature cheddar, too

It kind of sounds like your soul has died during this refinement process.

I’ve told you twats before, and, frankly, I’ve had enough of your fucking nonsense.
The four great cheeses are:
Cheshire Caerphilly Wensleydale Lancashire
An honourable mention goes to proper, decent, strong, mature Cheddar.
Gruyère will be had in a pinch.
No other cheese exists.

No love for a bit of stilton or gorgonzola?... Stilton’s alright in stuff, like pies and flans. But sticking with the Four Greats (TM) has never done me wrong.

In my defence, it's purely because I'm lactose intolerant.

Double Gloucester is one of my favourites.
In terms of non-speciality cheese NZ is absolutely dire. You get 'mild', 'colby', 'edam' and 'tasty'. They are all cheddar, apparently, but the first three taste of nothing, whereas 'tasty' is stronger, but still tastes like shit.
Why is this so in a country whose main export is dairy? Apparently most mass-produced cheese in NZ is exported and used to make shit like Dairylea and plastic American cheese.
You can get very good cheese here, but it costs and is generally in tiny blocks no good for sandwiches.

Freak! No excuse, plenty of cheeses with minuscule amounts of lactose. e.g. aged cheddar, brie, parmesan.

It's not tasty though! What it should be called is 'flavour', because unlike the other bog-standard cheeses it has some.
