I’ll open it up next weekend when back home.
It used to work okay for a few years so maybe something got loose.

Nice, I’ve got a catalinbread silicon based percolator clone, their Karma Suture. It’s nice, slightly different take on it without any germanium. My White Atom gives me some nasty Ge goodness.
Just lacquered the analog delay pedal case, got the board all wired up so as soon as the epoxy is set I can finish that off

I’ve not heard of a White Atom, I’m scared to look or it’ll be on THE LIST as well. I could sit and build pedals I want to check out for the rest of the year and get sod all else done The HP is bizarre and needs some really odd component values, and the NPN transistor appears to bias the PNP one, they’re linked in an odd way that’s pretty unique, cool circuit. I always want to rush assembly and waiting for the lacquer to harden is tortuous, but needed as the hardware is going to be clamped on it. Usually move on to something else and then come back in a few days when it has cured.

Been away longer than I expected to be but back last night, opened it up and whilst I can hear noise coming through the amp if I wiggle a wire or two there is nothing obviously disconnected. I’m assuming it’s the volume know or something that’s fecked.

Anyone know anyone Manchester way that’s handy at fixing these things?

Spend some time rotating the dials and flicking the pickup switch back and forth, spray switch cleaner/isopropyl alcohol around. If stuff’s sat for years the tarnishing can be enough to shag the signal.

Can confirm, per elsewhere on this thread, this fixed a guitar that's basically been just hung on the wall for about 25 years. Still no one wants to buy it, though

Have started to play again after many years and decided to get me a new guitar: It's a good old Epiphone SG Standard, to my own surprise actually. I knew it'd most likely be an SG because after everything I've tried over two decades, I've always been drawn back to the SG because of its great comfort, playability, looks, sound, feel. I was actually most interested in the SG Modern Trans Black Fade (the one they had in the shop looked amazing, much better than in these pictures imo), but its asymmetrical neck was far too chunky on the thumb side for my liking. The SG Prophecy also has the asymmetrical neck, but even though it felt a wee bit thinner than the Modern's, I still found it too fat and just couldn't get on with it. The SG Standard's good old Slim Taper neck on the other hand... just beautiful, exactly how I like it. I prefer it even to Jackson and Charvel necks. I was pretty surprised by the quality of the pickups. I bought a few Epiphones 15-25 years ago, and back then their pickups were just horrible muffled rubbish. These however sound really nice, pretty close to the Gibson original in my opinion. They're not good for thrash and black metal so they will have to make way for Duncans anyway, but for clean, blues, hard rock and whatever else this guitar's "intended" use is, I think it's really great out of the box. It was fresh out of the box, and an experienced guy in the shop spent a good amount of time to set it up thoroughly, and as far as I can tell he did a superb job. Plays like a dream and is perfectly intoned. Nice! The only niggle I have is that the frets are pretty rough, on bends you can feel the strings scratching over them, although after a bit of play it's got a little better already. I'm going to polish them when I change strings, that should fix it. One question people always ask about SG's is: but what about the neck dive? None. You can feel it's on the neck-heavy side, but it perfectly stays in place on a strap. One thing to consider here is that not all SG's are the same and the strap pin is in different places depending on model. The more oldschool models like the SG Standard 60s or the SG Custom with the small pickguard usually have a lower neck joint and hence a lower strap pin, which I imagine may cause problem for weight distribution. But the SG Standard with the large pickguard has an extended neck joint that allows better pin placement and there's no problem here. Compare these pics of the SG Standard and the SG Standard 60s to see what I mean. So yeah, I'm really happy I must say. I love this guitar!

Epi Probuckers if that is what it has are a very nice pickup, I think they are basically Eastern built Classic 57s or Burstbuckers.
The scratchy frets on Epiphone is definitely a thing, you can get the worst of it out with those micro mesh things if they are otherwise well shaped etc.

They're Alnico Classic Pros, which are modelled after 57s if the internet can be trusted. Thanks for the tip with the mesh, yeah that's what I was going to do, I already ordered a set of these if that's what you mean.

Many congratulations!
I love my SG; it’s the 1960s Tribute one with the P90s.
Have a HUGE amount of fun with yours. That’s what SGs are for.
I reckon “SG” stands for “Silly Grin”!

I’ve a ‘74 Ibanez lawsuit SG I found in a guitar shop. Had been gigged to death, worn out, mildly scalloped from string bending and filthy. Couldn’t work out why it was so discoloured until I tried white spirit and brown tobacco juice came off it in spades 🤮. I love it because it’s the same age as me, but I need to run the fairly mellow pickups quite high and they get in the way of the playability a bit. Need to buy three good humbuckers for it, but I think I’ll actually sell it. I play it the least… yet every time I pick it up I do love it…
