I get twitchy with clutter. We've got a lovely dismantled wardrobe in our loft room atm, but I don't think we have anywhere to put it realistically, so I resent it everytime I look at it. Double mattress we haven't got space for wedged in a nook. Need to Gumtree/Freecycle. It's like detoxing.

I get it, and would like to be the same. Currently staring at our dining room door that we took off the hinges 9 years ago in order to get power into the hallway for the big fridge (temporarily you understand, until we get a sparky to put power in...). Ridiculous. And that we have no storage just means there's clutter everywhere.

Oh, and I did salvage a pick axe and a bench grinder from my dad's shed. I have no use for either of them yet (especially the pick axe, I do intend to have a bench in the shed eventually). See the problem?!

There have been studies (quite a few, iirc) which have shown that clutter and excess stuff causes quite a lot of stress for most people.
It is definitely worth decluttering if you can.
I appreciate that is not always easy (we moved to a bigger house two years ago and even though we intended not to, our stuff has expanded to fill the space), but it can be really cathartic to have a good clear out.

It definitely stresses me out. But my other half is definitely not affected by it tbh. Swings and roundabouts.

Just had an offer accepted on a house
Everything has suddenly become incredibly real and I feel sick.
I thought this was supposed to be exciting.

It's an absolutely terrifying few months, and never really feels properly real until you've got the keys and shut the new house's door behind you for the first time.
Congrats and enjoy the ride!

Don't worry, you will be too busy chasing surveyors, solicitors and estate agents to keep things moving to worry.

Congratulations and buyers remorse is inevitable, but fleeting

Yeah, you'll feel it a bit, it'll pass.
Don't worry about feeling underwhelmed when you get the keys either - we both felt a little 'meh' when we got the keys and checked it out after it was ours.
We got the 'proper' feeling when we started moving our stuff in a week later.

Buying houses royally sucks. Awful, awful process and very hard to actually get excited about. Getting an offer accepted simultaneously feels like a small victory and then you start questioning whether you should have got it for less, whether you paid over the odds, whether it's going to fall down, etc. etc. Butttttt... when you move in and you're done with all that shit, it's so good. Spending a fortune on renovations at the moment and it's been mild hell living in a building site for 4 weeks, but the kitchen floor and units started going in this week and suddenly I'm reminded why we fking did this. It's gunna be great. And so will your new gaff. Good luck!

I'd be double checking the mortgage offer, a fair few products have been discontinued recently.
Fingers crossed for you star.

Who knew there was so much positivity tucked away round here?
Thanks all! I’m sure I’ll come round to it eventually. Probably once I’m finally sat, sipping a beer in my new garden.
If it’s still summer by the time we move in.

Who knew there was so much positivity tucked away round here? Everyone who's bought a house any time in the last 20 years? Congratulations on your purchase. If it makes you feel any better, we had to hand in our keys first to kick off the whole completions process in the chain. Which meant we were 150 miles from the old house and 50 miles from the new one, wondering if everything would be ok when we finally got the call to say we could have our new keys, 7.5 hours after we'd posted our old ones through the door and left. Fucking ridiculous, tbh. The whole of housebuying needs to be overhauled. We could start by shooting all the estate agents and then giving a serious beating and stern talking to about getting their act together to all the conveyancing solicitors!

We are having a very easy (well relatively) - moving half a mile, buying from family, 2 week overlap in which we can complete the physical moving, largely cash buyers....but seriously, never again!
The sellers and us are using the same small law company for the conveyancing (literally 2 people in next door offices)(it's legit!), so we assumed there would be less to and froing, as they could shout through the wall to confer, but nope.
We've been here for 20 years, raised 3 kids, got so much crap.
Not entirely convinced we are happy to leave our house, but it's a good deal for us. Plus the new place has a pond with a thriving newt community.
