Oof yes flashbacks here too, nightmare, we had two vans to move all of our junk and they still had to go back to collect some more, hence leaving the cats behind in a bedroom to be discovered by the new owners in all the kerfuffle!

I stuck my stuff in storage between selling and buying and it was only due to my wifes excellent Tetris skills that we got it all in.
Well, that and me going via the tip to dump stuff of hers I didn't like. She still moans about my mates losing stuff whilst giving us a hand moving into the new place and wondering how they could possibly have managed it since it was just storage unit -> van -> new place.

I 'accidentally' left a shitty old dining chair in the loft that belonged to her Grans, to be fair it took a good six months or so for her to realise we'd somehow left it behind. She has her suspicions though.

He even used quotation marks to emphasise the point…

I've found the secret to trying to get rid of Ms Mercury's junk is to hide something for a few weeks, if she doesn't mention it it's good to chuck out. After that the kids can legitimately get blamed as they're always helping themselves or breaking and then hiding this or that.

We were bottom of chain... One of the few good things from having to sell in the summer and move into rental...
So doing our move tomorrow from 8am.
Got the keys at about 3 today! Moved in. Shifted cats in.
It's awesome! Can't believe I own an actual house and not a shoebox.

All our stuff moved in. Started at 8:30. Finished at 13:30. 5 hours. Beats 4 days when I did it myself with transit van. No idea how they managed to Tetris all our stuff into the van. Slightly annoying that the 3rd man I requested didn't turn up... ended up being me basically. But cheaper rate so mild saving. Whatever though – all done!

Purplebricks is struggling apparently: www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64678984 I'm not surprised, I know there are some here who sing their praises but I always thought they were shit.

It's been a long six weeks of decorating whilst the two of us manage life, work and a toddler but we moved in today. I'm glad that part is over as it's really pushed me to my limits at times. Lots of work still to do, and living in a sea of boxes but feels really good to finally be in our house.

So, we are now going through the painful process of finding a new house.
At the weekend we viewed a really nice house with a massive garden that was surprisingly well priced. I really like it, which says a lot as I hate looking at houses, and it’s a perfect one to potentially grow a family.
The one downside to it, that my other half can’t get out of her head, is that it has a substation next to it. It’s fully covered and well kept, but is a few metres the other side of the driveway.
Ignoring all the familiar internet 5G-esque brain cancer and death within 2 weeks wailings, is there anything to legitimately be worried about with this? I’m not, but I seem to be fighting a losing battle with my partner. Any experts in the field on here?

a leccy substation? had one of those (sort of a grey 2m3 cube) outside a ground floor flat years ago which... well it exploded and showered the thankfully closed french windows in boiling hot oil and metal springy things - can't say as I've ever witnessed or heard of anything similar happening since though so I'm probably just unlucky, can't imagine it happens with any regularity

Whilst I appreciate the input, I may just leave that happy little anecdote out of any future discussion…

It's one of those things that could put potential buyers off when you come to sell it. With the same thoughts as your partner.
We are in the middle of this - we've had it slightly easier as we are buying the house off my wife's parents. They are moving back down south for some reason.
Gutting and viewing was really stressful....but we accepted an offer. Most sales in Scotland go to a closing day when all interested parties submit a sealed bid....but the offer was on the basis they would not be doing that. It was over our target price, so didn't gamble and just took it.
We've got so much crap...

Been in my gaff for about 3 months now and it's bloody great. Took over a year of pain, but it's well worth it once you're on the other side.
A slither of hope for anyone on the hunt at the moment.

We hired the biggest fuck off skip to gut my mum's bungalow on Saturday. Whole family was there to take whatever we wanted/needed and then skipped everything that isn't going to charity. Was pretty heartbreaking but couldn't think about 2 lives basically being chucked away. She had so much shite, bless her.

We had similar when my mum went, most of it just went to a house clearance guy for pennies in the end, none of us really wanted much, awful really but if no one wants what's left what can you do.

My mum and dad are trying to clear out stuff (by giving it all to us, ffs) and we're having to be polite but firm when we're offered the broken hard floor cleaner for the third time ("just throw it away, mum!"). We try not to fill our house with clutter at the best of times, but it's not always easy to be minimalist. I get that it's hard to let go of stuff, but considering as most of it'll just end up in a skip anyway... I think the Swedes have the right idea, tbh.

I think the Swedes have the right idea, tbh. I did not know that was a thing! Been trying to convey similar to my partner as she is _terrible_ for getting rid of stuff. Just hides and pretends she'll sort it out at the weekend. Except... it's stuff she said she'd sort when we last moved lol. Not hard to see where she got it from... her parents' house is literally 90% the same as when I first met them about 12 years ago. Books, DVDs, 'stuff', etc just stationary decade after decade. I get keeping things for sentimental value, but is a Davina McCall workout DVD sentimental after 20 years?

A lot of it is time tbf, especially with a family. So much shit to sort out but no time, so everything gets chucked up in the loft. I've got 2 car seats, an oak cot and a mid-sleeper bed to see that have been in the loft for years. Just can't seem to get around to it.
