I'm buying a house. It fucking sucks, just like the last 4 times. Are we meant to copy stuff off the old thread? I don't know. Enjoy

The whole house buying process needs a massive overhaul. It should all be done and dusted in 3 weeks, not 3 months.

I know there needs to be a lot of covering one's back, but given the myriad things that can crop up, it's a wonder any actually make it to completion.
I can't really think of anything else where you buy something then spend 12+ weeks waiting for it.

The Modiphius Infinity RPG I signed up for in 2015 isn't fully delivered yet. 300 weeks so far. Give or take.

I'm buying for the first time at the moment. Hopefully I come out the other end of the process sane. It's fucking madness how much it costs buying near Brighton.

3 months is quick isn’t it? Haha. Will be a great joy when we finally sign on Wednesday. Still in the back of my mind something will fuck up…

Just pick them up with your hands and put them where you want them usually.

Removal firms usually provide boxes and tape as part of the service, even if you self pack

Ah fair enough! cheers. Although can't get quotes until we've got an agreed date.. which I proposed on Wednesday and nothing since.

Surely you can still get a couple of quotes without a firm date?
We did the full packing and moving service last time and don't think I'll ever not do that again. Mainly because of how much shit the OH has.

I'm guessing it won't get much easier than selling something when not in a chain. Just look at the prices for similar properties and go from there.

I did this recently, my brother said try and enjoy it, you'll never (unlikely to be) in the position of simply buying without selling ever again. I was a cash buyer and fairly flexible for the seller so things went quite smoothly. I've never bought in the UK though, so that has its own problems with estate agents and lawyers etc. In Sweden (yawn) the agent acts for both the buyer and seller and does all the legal stuff. They have a proper qualification (2 years). I found it fairly stress-free.

Just look at the prices for similar properties and go from there. What I've learned is that if you get a decent offer, don't wait for 4 days before deciding and saying "yes". You have to react within a day or two otherwise people will quickly go elsewhere

I sold a flat this summer and didn't have the luxury of trying one of those all in removals as the stamp duty deadline meant I couldn't even get a standard removal. Ended up doing it all myself and chucking stuff into storage - where it still is, all stacked on top of each other... probably collapsed by now.
Meanwhile, I've moved two hundred and odd miles up north and am staying in hotels whilst trying to find something to buy, working from the parents place during the day. It is really going to take much longer to find somewhere than I anticipated. A place came up I liked the look of the other day and I phoned the agent within an hour - apparently somebody had already seen the add and driven straight around to the place and made an offer. Madness.
I really should just rent for a while, but the rentals are all mental to get as well, or rubbish - hence I'm still in a hotel. Oh well, at least I'm shot of my shitty flat that wouldn't sell in 'normal times'.

Mainly because of how much shit the OH has. We've got a few that are doing video calls for next week to price up. I don't really fancy having someone pack up my stuff especially my vinyl, game collection etc. Can't be bothered with the faff of complaining if damaged! Also I'll probably put the valuables in the car and shift it over myself so no point in a service.

I accepted a removal firm for next Friday with one solicitor not confirming.. they've not responded since last week. 80% sure the move won't happen but I don't lose a deposit. Proper getting fucked off by all this now..

I thought my move was fairly close but my buyer has been complaining to the Estate Agent that we have not provided what she asked for.
Both myself and my solicitor are confused by this as we have given her absolutely everything, regardless how petty.

I've signed contracts and waiting to complete, packing right now, and thanks to the genius of our house trading system, probably only about 53 things left that could wrong
