Performance was reportedly dismal on all but the highest of high-end PCs. Not sure about consoles. Yeah, the plug was pulled six months after launch - a real shame, as it was the only one of the MH-like games I've seen (God Eater, Dauntless, and Toukiden) that actually looked good. I think Tuffty is the only one here who has played it! Yeh console was fine! I played on PS5, didn't really notice too many issues performance wise tbh. Really think it's an incredible looking game actually.
Wagasa is definitely viable! You need to be locked in on the fact that the only use you'll get from it is from having to parry which builds up the meter and expands your moveset and strength. The timing on the parry is a little different too, happens like a second after pressing it, by design. But monster attacks are usually well telegraphed and it's in my mind one of the most satisfying parries? Huge 'CLING' chime and your hunter gets pushed back by the force of it. Or even mid air you do these flips and stuff. I really loved all the weapons in Wild Hearts, loved the game overall really. The final boss is an absoulte visual spectacle as good as anything Monster Hunter has shown. Should prob go back to it because I never did do the post launch monster variants they added. EA just never gave it a chance, zero marketing, rushed PC port sent out to die.

Charge Blade is up! Also the armour in this video is brilliant. Game is looking lovely. Just hope my series S can run it ok Also here’s a hot take from back when MHW was announced which has aged like milk: www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/s/pA5z9vIx2d

Spider webs on the armor/shield it looks like. New Spider type monster I guess? And yeah I remember the hot takes around World. "Western focused MH means it's not gonna sell well" etc. "..it will reamin niched compared to GTA, FIFA". Mate, every game is niche compared to those two.

Gotta say, I'm really looking forward to Wilds. Much more so than GTA6, actually (which, considering GTA5 was the game that got me into gaming in the first place, says a lot).
Back in early 2020, as it became clear that we were heading towards some kind of lockdown, I decided to stock up on games. I was already playing Breakpoint - having abandoned it at launch until Ubisoft fixed the bloody thing - and on top of that I picked up Control, Dragon's Dogma, and Monster Hunter: World.
Thing is, I had *no idea* what I was getting into with World.
In my unwavering ignorance, I thought it was basically a fantasy RPG like Skyrim, but in a boss rush context... so that's how I played it! Rather than hunting the same monster repeatedly until I'd farmed up enough materials, I moved straight onto the next one; instead of crafting entire sets of armour, my hunter was dressed in whatever odd pieces I'd managed to make on my sporadic trips to the forge.
My first major roadblock was Diablos - I could get him into his final phase, when he'd insist upon playing hide and seek in that room with the curtains of sand, but I'd either die or run out of time.
Because Iceborne was already out at this point, I had access to an armour set that had been released in order to let players speed through the campaign and get to the DLC quickly. Equipping it from the start of the game seemed like easy mode, so I hadn't done that; equipping it for Diablos seemed okay, though.
I duly did so and beat him soon thereafter.
My second roadblock was Nergigante, and... holy shit, this was hard. Over the course of multiple attempts, I ran out of time more often than I died (and as the game doesn't have enemy health bars, I had no idea how close or how far I was from beating him).
There was no prefab armour to carry me through this time. It wasn't even a question of "gitting gud" - rather, it was a matter of learning the game's mechanics 50-odd hours in, as I realised I'd been bluffing my way through every single moment until that point.
Anyway, I eventually beat Nergigante - thanks in no small part to a guy who ran a Monster Hunter fansite, and kindly provided me with advice, so a big shout-out to him - and the rest of the subsequent "bosses" were easy enough to beat, so I managed to roll credits and that was that.
Thing is, I always felt I'd screwed the proverbial pooch by playing so much of World without knowing what the hell I was doing - unfinished business, as it were.
I would've jumped into Rise last year, but Capcom insisted upon leaving that as a digital-only release on PS5, so now I have my sights set firmly on Wilds.
Ask not for whom the bell tolls, Nergy.

Rakna-Kadaki from Rise is probably making an appearance

Honestly, dude, my choice of weapon was the least of my concerns
I didn't know about barrel bombs, or the thing you use to get airlifted out when you want to go back to camp and resupply, or any of that stuff.
I was still using the basic potions as my primary means of healing!
In hindsight, I'm amazed I got as far as I did without running headlong into a brick wall.

I first got into Monster Hunter with 4. I got a 3ds plus that game as a present for a long commute and man I had no idea. I thought it was a bit like a boss rush type of game and was utterly confused. Eventually I figured out about how the map worked in that game, and to take specific items and what they did.
I remember the effort it took me to even beat Great Jaggi. And then I was hooked. I’ve since sold the game but I wished I had noted how many hours I had put into it by the end.
I know that Rise has its detractors but for me they haven’t put a foot wrong. Can’t wait for Wilds! Bring on the SnS!

Charge Blade looks pretty cool - kind of like a Trick Weapon in Bloodborne, in that it can switch between sword and greataxe forms on the fly.

Charge Blade is amazing. I wish I was better at it, maybe I'll main it in Wilds.

Looking at the weapons list from World, and assuming it'll be the same for Wilds, I'm thinking Dual Blades could be the way to go - has anyone gone down that route as a main in previous games?

I did for World. You're trading any kind of defence for offense and mobility so you gotta focus on knowing when to evade monster attacks which might be difficult against tougher monsters that can deal a lot of damage or if youre fighting monsters for the first time figuring it out. But you can deal a lot of damage and shred monsters, particularly if they're knocked down. The best move in World was always to jump and act like a saw running down from head to tail
Always liked using the Light Bowgun since playing Rise, good to see it's looking tidy too.

With Gamescom taking place next week, I'm basically expecting a release date for Wilds to be announced then.
Q1 2025 is my guess.

Playable demo is going to some event or another after Gamescom, so must be pretty close to done.

Watching some Bow footage from World via YouTube, I'm honestly amazed at how few of the weapon's moves I knew about (and used) during my playthrough.
It's kind of chastening.
I'm a dumbass.

SnS! Switch Axe!! It’s like Capcom are reading this thread and responding.
Given you can now take two weapons on hunts, I think more people than ever before will experiment. I might actually try Charge Blade this time.

Poor old Nergi. With a lance he's so easy. I hit a roadblock in World with Nergi too. Can't even remember what weapon I was using but someone suggested lance and I never looked back. Love my pokey stick! Feels like cheating sometimes.
