Had an hour with it at lunchtime, liking it so far. It's quite generous with the cheevos as well if you care about that sort of thing.

It’s fun. But you’ve got to be careful not to get stuck on the track: that first car they give you isn’t too fast and I’ve found myself stuck on a banked turn. 😂

The new Hot Wheels expansion is loads of fun, reminds me of the days playing Trackmania Nations.
Haven't been driving too much since the ADAC left me alongside the Autobahn for about 5 hours in the baking hot sun, so after that hellish episode I've not been too eager to get behind a wheel again... Still though, I'm enjoying this a lot more then, say, the LEGO DLC for the last one.

Really enjoying the new expansion, particularly the verticality of the new world. Thought it is a pain to get back into the track. I fell into the waterfalls and while I found a dragon, it was harder than I expected to find some plastic track.

Im enjoying it but I still think Track Mania and even GTA online does hot wheel style tracks better. My opinion on that might change as I've only just unlocked the S1 class races.
Finally reached prestige level and finished off all the bonus boards on Mexico though. Nice to finally tick that off.

Really enjoying it too. Gets really fun when you get to the A class events with water slides. Just about to try streaming it in bed like a true degenerate.

100% complete on the Hot Wheels expansion now. It was short but fun. Navigating off the track being a pain is the only real negative I can throw it’s way. The mission structure is good in that if you want to finish them all it makes you try everything in game.
No real desire to spend any more time in the expansion now though. Have seen that there has been some speed traps and drift club added to the main game so will get onto those.

I got to the final tier of it, but really couldn't be bothered doing some of the last races again on higher difficulty. I seemed to struggle a bit even on average (probably due to the tune I downloaded for the S2 car, which was a bit wobbly at the best of times!)
Wasn't a fan of the bonus board placement, as it felt like I spent 90% of the time trying to figure out how to get off the track. Gave up on those completely after doing a couple.
Overall a solid expansion though. Had fun blasting through it all.

It's worth logging on this week to grab the rather nice Lotus Evija for 100FP from Forzathon if you haven't already. Came back to FH5 for Hot Wheels but it's also got me back into playing the Festival Playlist stuff on the Mexico map a lot more than I had done in the past. Feels like that side of things has improved, less buggy anyway, I've been having fun with it. Some lovely old Porsches to collect for the weekly 20 points this month. The Extreme E racing is also good. The new season starting next week also looks good. Includes a new story chapter on the main map. forza.net/news/forza-horizon-5-ramis-racing-history

Started playing this after binging FH4, I was worried I would be burned out on Forza But bloody hell this is good. Some of the races have a great atmosphere to them, the weather effects and conditions are used brilliantly to set the mood of races.
Really addresses one of the criticisms I had of FH4 that they never really leant on the seasonal and weather systems they put so much effort in to for unique gameplay moments.

10 year anniversary stuff has been fun: it's FH3 this week. (Hope this doesn't count as the second expansion )

Couple of questions,
How does the AI difficulty work in this exactly? I know it matches your car in single player, but it is by class or speed? If I take a C class car and upgrade it to B, will it place me with other B class cars or is it something else?
I've got a Honda Civic (cos spooky mentioned it somewhere, so I assumed it's good), upgrading it bumped it up a class but that was mainly due to changing to race tyres - I didn't upgrade the engine. It handles and accelerates well I think, but on tracks with long straights, it lags behind. Is that just normal for the car and it's better for tracks with lots of turns or a bad setup/bumping its class has it punching above its weight?
Other question, is the Hot Wheels DLC and the additional cars worth getting? I don't fancy the Hot Wheels Unleashed game because the toy cars don't interesting me but the tracks look fun during the Forza loading screens (which is probably why they're there)
I have really bugger all knowledge of cars so the additional cars seems superfluous unless they're some incredibly well known cars as I already don't know which cars to go for (looking up the best cars in the game would be pretty boring so I tend to go with what looks nice/I've vaguely heard of someewhere)

Also, the clothing options for your character really date this. It's pretty bad

Oh, I like the Civic as the starter car in Gran Turismo. In these games, I tend to switch to the flashier cars as soon as I unlock them through spins or story advancement.
But yeah, going up in class pits you against similar classed cars. Get in a Ford GT or something.

(All this my limited and possibly wrong understanding)
If you upgrade a car to say 700 from 633, then in SP races you will face other cars that are around 700, either just 700 stock or anything lower with upgrades to that level. The difficulty is determined mainly by the drivatar (yeah I know) difficulty, 8 or 9 levels, which in playlist challenges are often fixed to 'Above Average' which is as it says.
The points value of a car is determined by a lot of factors, so a 700 car might have a much better top speed than another 700 car, if so that should be balanced by better brakes or something else. Go into 'Upgrades and Tuning' and then 'Find Tuning Setups' - there will often be multiple different setups for the same car, same points value - the hexagon diagram shows how the points are allocated.
In general, a stock 700 car is going to be more balanced than one upgraded to it.

Is it it better/worse/the same as the Hot Wheels DLC for FH3?
I liked the Lego DLC for 4.

Just further regards the difficulty, it is pretty variable, you will have to try different levels. I can beat Unbeatable (top level) in most dirt races in my favourite Subaru, but struggle at the supercar end of things at even average difficulty levels.

I try to go for cars at the lower end of their class so there's decent scope for upgrades, then get is as close to the class maximum as possible, then tune after that. I think the basic upgrades I wanted probably knocked the Civic into a higher band so I just went all in (but not the engine - haven't done engine swaps yet). Sounds like I was just expecting too much from the humble Civic though. I did enjoy bumbling around in it but I think I'll retire it now
I was doing alright on Expert but then dropped it to Above Average when I started turning assists off. I can comfortably win most events with a couple of attempts/cheeky rewinding. I don't know the ins and outs of why, but manual gearing really improved my cornering and shifting/accelerating out of corners feels too good to go back to automatic now
I'm using a Bentley for rally/off road at the moment (a big chunky one), which probably isn't the best choice, but it feels so good to drive. It slides around corners but never feels like I'm not in control and it accelerates like no one's business

Oh and I've been doing my own upgrades/tuning. I know you can download them but I like the tinkering
I had an issue with mid turn understeer on an Audi for ages and eventually fixed it by fiddling with the roll bars. Felt like solving a puzzle

The Type R is a lot of fun I agree. You can widen the gearing to increase top speed, at the expense of acceleration I think.

dicked around on this for a bit on gamepass, toyota celica is a lovely A class rally car, and the ye-olde ford escorts you get from barn finds are happy in B or A. and the differential seems the most impactful tuning tab? 50-80 lock on the rear, increasing with power, and 30-50 front on 4x4 cars seemed nice for me

Diff tuning always seems like the biggest deal for me in any racing game, but then I'm also a bit too scared to go into the weeds of suspension tuning where setting any value to the extreme can be a terrible idea. Meanwhile, setting diff lock to 100% or 0% has very understandable consequences.

Turns out I was getting my Civics confused- the one I'd worked on was always A class but I had another one that was C, which I must have been gifted. Still wondered how the game pitted classes in single player anyway
Worked out you can kind of set time trials up offline by creating a course with 50 laps and no other cars. Started playing around with an S1 Ford GT and man, that's fast. Surprisingly responsive as well. Bit slippy on acceleration

You can also set up time trials, sort of, by just running a normal race with the difficulty set to Tourist* , you don't see them after the first bend, then you can still set a time and get a reward too. Just in case useful.
* even though everyone hates a tourist

* even though everyone hates a tourist It sets up the AI as tourists, allowing you to get as far away from them as possible
