I've also gone off the blade- 24 Ours at Legendary is much better, and has 2 boosts.
Once I've got cogs to burn I want to try getting one of the novelty cars with low speed and high boosts to legendary- figure it might be viable just boosting and drifting the whole way around.

I was racing against an Audi Quattro S1 the other day. I must have it.

I'm having a real hard time with the Breathtaking Race track towards the top of the map. I can believe that there's no rubberbanding, but I'm starting to wonder if there's a dose of what I'm going to term "3rd lap fuckery". Seems like every time the track splits I go from ahead to behind, or get caught on a bump and flip over, always after 2 normal laps that went perfectly.
On the upside, all these repeated laps mean I've found a nice little shortcut that shaves off a couple of seconds and looks cool too.

The shop timer only ticks down when in game. That's pretty stupid. Yeah, I toyed with the idea of just leaving it AFK in multiplayer and coming back a few hours later to check. Didn't do it in the end even if half of the pack in any lobby seemed to have the same idea.

Where do we stand on the car that is shaped like a car for 1200? I need to get some pros and cons going here.
Pros: -Car is literally a shark -Its shaped like a shark -It is a shark on wheels
Cons: -May cause long term stress and frustration when driving cars not shaped like sharks

Didn't do it in the end even if half of the pack in any lobby seemed to have the same idea. I was of the impression that multiplayer AFKers are doing it to earn 40 coins per race, rather than just to refresh the shop. Even considered it myself but I was worried about getting banned as we've no idea how trigger-happy the devs are for that sort of thing.

Yeah, you don't have to be in a race for the timer to count down.

I completed all the secrets and decided to have a proper go at the multiplayer. But this isn't a proper go- I'm in a lobby where over half of the players are AFK, and the other half are consistently voting for the "drag race" player-created tracks that are finished in 5 seconds. Great for earning coins fast, but not so good for an actual fun time.

Accidentally bought the Xbox One version of this instead of the Series X one. What a fucking scummy thing to do. I don't suppose there's a modestly priced upgrade?

The tracks after the 3rd boss are a step up in difficulty, ive been caught out a few times.
Still flitting between cars trying to find my ultimate fave too which probably doesn't help with consistency.

Got a very quick go on this last night, seems right up my alley. Only thing I don't like is those fucking adaptive triggers (PS5), they just seem permanently pushed out here and do nothing other than make it harder to accelerate. Am I missing something?

Car update: Formula Flashback at Legendary is now in my top 2 best cars (along with Rocketfire). It has one less boost than Rocketfire (2 vs. 3), but it sticks to the track like glue, and is significantly more stable when you hit the edge of a track at speed. I'm using it for the last section of races at the top of the map.

I've been in a Quick Match lobby for an hour, and the player created tracks are all a decent length. Some of them are really creative and good too.

I think Formula Flashback is the one. It absolutely blitz's through the tracks, can control it easy on the drift and it's absolutely rapid.
Only 2 boosts though.

Wait until you get to the Pterodactyl level, it's controller smashing levels of annoying.

The scorpion and the pterodactyl both took a few attempts, but I'd still trade their poison or whirlwind hazards for those godforsaken spider sections peppered throughout the game. Every time I think I've mastered the technique to avoid their web-spit, one catches me out and I go from first to fourth in the last lap.

Well, I've cleared most of the map thinking I'm pretty decent at this game, but the No Braking time trial 2 races from the end is an absolute brick wall. Seems like there's no margin for error whatsoever- one of those where the moment you mess up a turn, you just restart, because the rest of the lap is pointless.
I'm a few more fails from quitting and trying one of the cars with lower speed but, like, 5 boosts. They have to be good for something right?

And it really takes the piss that you can only unlock time trials (with ghosts to follow) once you've already beaten the track on your own.

OH WAIT- the track is called "Applied Gravity" it's the event that's called "Open Braking". I can Time Attack it with a ghost after all.

Well this has been a journey
Turns out you can only apply either your own ghost or the absolute best ghost in time attack. And the best ghost for this particular track (and, I suspect, many others), was the one that found the exploit where you boost off the side, skip a huge section, and land shortly before the finish line.
So, I followed the ghost, and completed the track in 40 seconds rather than the 1m20 that was proving so hard. And now I feel dirty.

I am almost offended by how easy the last track was compared to the penultimate one

The final section of time trails to the north is balls hard.

Ok, using air-boosting to skip large sections of track is actually quite fun.
Edit - for the avoidance of doubt, I am not doing this in multiplayer

The first season pass cars are out... and one of them gets full speed and 4 boost at Legendary. Could be a new favourite, and I wonder if it will end up dominating the multiplayer. Although there isn't really a "meta" so far in the races I've joined, it's still usually a couple of people racing and the rest sitting AFK earning coins.

It's not quite NFTs and crypto, but I wonder what the energy cost is of all the people leaving their consoles running 24/7 to harvest Hot Wheels coins from the multiplayer. Because it's a LOT of people. Every lobby is like 4 racers and 8 harvesters now.

Well I fell for this from you guys banging on about it so much, played it for a couple of evenings and it's just too bare bones for me. Unlocking crappy car after crappy car so far and the campaign is just a grind already. It's crazy unforgiving, which can be a good thing, but basically if you miss-time a corner and crash, even slightly, the race is over and you may as well restart.
I think I'll probably sell it and get Cruis'n Blast instead.
