Dunno, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a ps5 release shortly after the next gen update.

Thought I would play some Witcher 2 to get in the mood, bought for about 2 quid on the Xbox, but performance was just horrible on the X for some reason, I was getting motion sick the frame rates were so bad. Think I'll skip that idea and go straight to 3, going to force myself to not use Quen this time.

The Witcher 2 gets a good rep for its story and dialogue, but I found the combat system beyond terrible, even the combat in TW1 was better. It only becomes bearable by the last third of the game, when you are overpowered enough to take on every enemy with ease.
The 2.0 update (which is the one the 360 version is based upon) was supposed to make it better, but I found it even worse. If I ever were to replay the game, I'd just install the old 1.35 patch executable over my disc copy.

TBF, the combat was still terrible in 3 but at least they saw sense in allowing you to have potions and other consumables during combat.

The combat in 3 isn't that great, but at least you feel like you are in control. In 2 it almost feels like it doesn't matter what you do because Geralt will do whatever he wants, usually several minutes after you've given the input.

I need to play some more Witcher 3 before Wednesday, or I'm going to spend the first few hours remembering how to fight and whatnot rather than kicking back and enjoying it.

Ok so tried Witcher 3 at lunchtime, and despite previously finishing it on the hardest difficulty it's like I've never played it before. It took me half a dozen attempts to make it through the very first fight. Might have to start a mantra before I pick it up again.

Witcher 2 did have a better story than 3. Saying its combat was worse than the first game’s is ridiculous though.
Anyway, time to delete 3 to make room for the upgrade.

I’m thinking this might actually be a good way to stop me buying myself anything over Xmas Could do with a fresh play through, and I never did bother with the DLCs (though I do now have the GotY edition). I’m assuming this is literally just a patch update? I.e. I may as well just download the base game now, then let it update Wed, as opposed to waiting to do the full d/l when it’s live? On Steam, btw.

On PC, I’m sure it’ll just be a patch. Probably a similar automatic replacement type deal on Series X, tbh. It’s more PS5 where we’ll need to redeem the upgrade then reinstall the whole game, so I’m just deleting it now to have space in advance.

I look forward to all death threats and rabid Twitter posts when the updates don't appear online at the exact time the infographic said.

Oh come now, gamers are a reasonable bunch. I'm sure they'll be understanding if a roll out like this goes smoothly.

Yeah I’ve kept it off the ps5 in anticipation of a massive download Dec 14.

After reading the Metro/GC article, I’ll wait before downloading this for PS5. Looks a damn mess at the moment

Completely passed me by- is this a purchase, or an update/patch for owners of the game?

It's worth remembering that Metro is basically the Daily Mail without the charm and charisma.

That Metro article goes against the grain of most of the video reviews I've seen. That said it's not as if CDPR haven't got form. I've been on my second playthrough on the PC since 2016 so as long as it doesn't fuck up my save file I've got the rest of the week off work so looking forward to see what the PC version is like. Already looks stunning without MODS tbf.

Polygon article claimed it’s great, but In performance mode. Maybe rt mode needs some more work.

Push Square loved it but barring a reference to how lovely Quality Mode looks, I think they played it on Performance mainly.

wunty - that’s basically what my daughter said and told me she’s going to play it as soon as she’s able. So that’s that dogbot - the Metro is hateful, but I find their game reviews pretty much bang on for my tastes. It’s a bit odd that everyone seems full of praise and they’re a voice in the wilderness. When I look back at their Callisto Protocol preview, they had concerns regarding the game then, whereas lots of other places were gushing.

Can somebody let me know how the performance mode is any better than the 60fps 4K performance mode we had on series X anyway?

Can somebody let me know how the performance mode is any better than the 60fps 4K performance mode we had on series X anyway? It has everything the new quality mode has like 4k textures, better vegetation, better loading times, better draw distance, better reflections except for ray tracing. The original series X back compat mode never had any of that.

Wasn't the original Xbox One X version either 4K30 or 1080p60?

Don't lump Metro GameCentral in with the Daily Mail - David Jenkins is a great writer and is one of few games 'journalists' who genuinely doesn't give a shit if he gets on the wrong side of developers/publishers.
It came from the ashes of Digitser on Teletext and I'm fairly certain Paul Rose holds him in high regard too.

It's literally owned by DMG, so it's not really lumping anything anywhere.
