I’ll second the Revelations games being good. That the first was a DS game and it still (mostly) holds up better than some of the main series entries even now is pretty remarkable.

I've tried playing RE4 again a couple of times in recent years. It just feels so bloody clunky I end up giving up on it by the time I get to the chainsaw guy. With rose tinted glasses on its one of my top ten games of all time. In reality it's really not. I don’t have the patience to learn any new games with shit control schemes (like Souls games) but I’m so on top of RE4 I can play Pachebel’s Canon on that clunkophone. Maybe the main component of the controls that upends the game is knowing you can pull down on the left stick and push a button to spin 180 degrees. I use this to be a ballerina of death, a graceful gazelle of headshots. I also like collecting all the money and shit.

Kind of regretting putting RE:0 on easy. I didn't want to be put off by struggling too much as I hadn't played a "classic" RE game in yonks.
Sadly that means I have so many handgun bullets I literally have them falling out my pockets and even hunters are going down in one shotgun blast.
Whoops.
Still. It's great. I've missed these kind of games. I actually have to read stuff and figure things out again.
Regarding Revelations. First one is great. Second one I have installed and not played yet, so that may actually be after RE:0 after all.

I'm one of the two people in the entire universe who think Resi Evil DS (deadly Silence) is great fun. Enjoyed the small displays, the touch control gimmicks, the additional chests and even the sudden attacks by Zs in first person mode. I have it on regular replay to this day. Shame they did not adapt RE2 to this unique console. As a complete off-topic I regard the DS/3DS the greatest invention by Nintendo. Shame they had to be discontinued.

I think the monsters in Rev 2 are a bit over-designed but I like the asynchronous storytelling and at the time it was a broadly more horror experience than Resi had been for awhile (apart from Rev 1)

Argh, I really want to play Village now after reading this thread - I've been waiting for it to drop on Gamepass but it's not looking likely.
May have to go back to the remake of 1 or 2 to satisfy. Or stop being a wuss and finally play Alien Isolation.

I'll probably rebuy Village when I'm back from my hols. It's annoying me I don't have it. It's due a replay after 7.

Also, you should play Alien Isolation.

I know I stuck a whole list of stuff on the What Should I Play Next thread but 7 is well overdue a replay for me too

I recently replayed it and was quite surprised how quick you can blast through it but also I feel like some ammo placements have been changed in the Gold edition.

I know I stuck a whole list of stuff on the What Should I Play Next thread but 7 is well overdue a replay for me too Yeah I only played it once years ago. I'm playing it alongside Zero and I am reminded just how fucking good it is. I know the last part doesn't stack up to the first part but I still recall quite enjoying it.
The only thing I didn't like too much was the End of Zoe DLC. I liked Chris' though.

Ah right yeah. Didn't realise the gold edition changed anything. Is it a general update for the game? I have the base game and all the DLC etc, or would it have to have been from that edition?

I honestly don't know. But some things felt different even enemy encounters and enemy placements, I've played it enough to get a feel for things and it definitely threw me.

I quite liked the last part of 7. You go from conserving ammo for big fights to absolutely swimming in the stuff and mowing down everything you see.

Also, you should play Alien Isolation. This, it's an amazing game and probably the scariest I've played. I dropped my controller at one point out of fear.

I would just place my controller down and flap my hands in panic whilst it saved.

It absolutely nails the whole alien feel as well. I'd be day one for a sequel, but I can't remember if it sold well enough to warrant one.
I remember being in a vent breathing a sigh of relief and then cried like a little girl when I realised I wasn't.

Considering that Hyenas (ugh) is next up from Creative Assembly and other studios are releasing aliens games now, I'd assume Sega don't even have the license any more.
I really need to give it a proper go.

I enjoyed playing End of Zoe because it was quite an arcadey trip after the base game but in terms of it being part of 7 having super punching powers felt very out of step with what had come before. So I kind of think of it more like a mercenary mode or the 2 remake dlc

7 is actually one of my least favourites. The hillbilly thing and tone just didn't feel very Resident Evil. It was a lot more crass than usual (wasp vagina). I also hate the Saw films so that whole section missed me

The Marguerite boss fight freaks me the fuck out. I'm not looking forward to that bit again.
I know what you mean about it not being very RE, but I think that it was the reinvention the series needed, before Village started introducing a lot more Re-ness.

I kind of see it as a departure to the new phase like Re4 was to the previous. Overall I still think its the scariest RE despite village having THAT bit.

I really liked RE7 until the ship section after Marguerite - that was some nose dive, quality wise.
I know most RE games tail off in the third act but this is probably the worst one for me.

Yeah, I actually felt quite scared in RE7, the basement and just Jack calling after you as stomped behind you. It fucked me up more times than I care to mention.

Nice, just got the Dreamcast version of Code Veronica running like a charm on the Retroid Pocket. I know what I'm playing on holiday now...

Have to say that the 3rd person mode on Village, announcement got me very excited. That's looking like the highlight of my gaming autumn, I'm postponing a replay until it gets released.

Is that official or a fan thing? Are they going to give Ethan a face?
