RE4 being dressed up as Village with RE2make controls feels promising to me

Next gen patches for RE7, 2 and 3 now.
A shirt video released that was just the trailer for 4 again with some guys afterwards saying “yep, it’s a game” but no real info.

Meant to be “shit” video but I don’t want to see the artwork for that one.
Two Ganados One Chamberpot maybe.
I hope the game is more colourful than RE8. Playing that again at the moment for new TV comparison, and the colour palette is very grey and dull most of the time. My memory of 4 is that’s it’s fairly bleak too I guess, but the Castle in particular was rich in colour, the village was… my memory associates it more with straw colour than greyness, and the Island red and rusty, and typical shiny-technology RE final act.

It won't be. 4 on Gamecube was very brown before games were brown, and this looks like the same game but with better graphics.

I’ll not share because the entire trailer is a spoiler for the end of Village but the story dlc looks like a fun addition. I don’t play Mercenary mode myself but getting to play as boss seems fun. I’m surprised the story dlc is what it is I thought it’d either be “play a random victim” like the demo and the RE7 beginning hour thing or playing as either Mia or Chris doing a short chapter occurring before/alongside Ethan’s main game story

Yeah, surprised that's the direction they took for DLC as that seemed to be where the sequel was going to go. One of the most spoilerific trailers I've ever seen.

It really is something to put the literal end of a game in the trailer for its dlc like that. Maybe a sequel but even then you wouldn’t recycle the footage.
But I’m pretty sure they never planned to do any for Village and its only been created in response to the success of the game which is why its taken so long to come.
Capcom seem to be treating Resi better than almost any other publish treats a flagship series though so I’ve got faith it’ll be quality even if it isn’t long or recycles assets.

Capcom seem like the good guys recently. Sure we've had many releases of their games on every generation, but more shame on us for buying then. They didn't have to make a third person mode for Village, which I'm actually pumped to playthrough!

On the other hand the constant reissuing does mean that the games are actually accessible instead of vanishing into history for those who can’t easily emulate. So maybe even getting us to rebuy RE4 every generation is still a broadly positive move.
Not to fanboy them (they’ve not been perfect) I’m just thinking in comparison to how Konami have looked after the Silent Hill titles RE has been mostly well served.

Yeah but Konami really don't care, video games as a business is dwarfed by the revenue they make from pachinko and the health industry.

Yep, I definitely count Capcom as the good guys despite the disbanding of Clover and no proper Okami sequel.

TBF, Clover was disbanded because they had terrible sales for their games and for Okami, again, terrible sales. We can bitch and moan about certain games not getting made but if no one's buying them what do they do, keep pumping money into sequels?

I only checked RE7, briefly, for just a few minutes. Framerate seemed fine with RT on, but the textures in RE7 sure haven't aged well - still looks very nice if you don't look closely, but it's not anyhwere near Village on the PS5.

Woah. 21GB for RE2 on PC! That's like the whole game.

Resi 2 framerate definitely didn't feel 60fps on PS5 with ray tracing.

Does it look any different with RT on? That was an issue I had with Village, RT looked mostly the same but it made performance inconsistent.
I've not installed them yet as I think I'd have to delete some PS5 games to make room.

I've only tried Resi 2 buy it's VERY subtle. I could be mistaken but it feels like this game has the PC version's highest settings.

I've reinstalled both RE2 & 3 to try out later on if I get chance. Thought both games still looked pretty good anyway so I'm curious to see if I notice much in the way of difference.

But yeah if that hd version had that amount of sales then maybe but it was released, what, say 10 years ago? Perhaps they may revisit it, the success of Monster Hunter and the Resident Evil franchise has made them pretty flush of late enough to have the confidence to have a proper expensive version of Street Fighter to get greenlit.

I only played it on PS4 Pro but RE2 already looked comparable to a lot of the PS5 native titles so I’m surprised that there’d be much room for improvement

Who the fuck is playing these multiplayer modes and games?

Been playing both RE2 and RE3 with the ps5 upgrade all evening.
I played RE 2 to the end of the police station, and 3 as far as the electric breaker puzzle.
Thankfully the game imports your saves from the Ps4 version, so I was also able to jump to various points of the story throughout both games and have a look at the different environments, without having to play them all the way through.
Firstly I think it looks fantastic, especially the lighting, however I've gotten too used to playing it at a constant 60.
With raytracing on, while it looks great, I'm noticing alot of stuttering, especially during cutscenes, when the camera is moving around quickly, it actually makes me feel slightly sick. It also seems to have a weird byproduct of making the enemies animation look very snappy at distance, maybe some kind of LOD-ing being forced on due to the extra gpu load?
Out of the two, I think that 2 fares a bit better, but it's harder to see the improvement, and even then it affects the framerate at times.
Tbh, I'm slightly surprised by the juddering framerate, as my TV is only 1080p so I would have thought a lower resolution would have helped compensate for the extra graphical grunt.
I couldn't try the 'high framerate' option, as my TV obviously doesn't support it.
All in all, it's been an interesting curio, but unless they patch it to frame lock it to 60, i'll probably still make subsequent play though using the Ps4 versions.
Don't get me wrong, they still look fantastic, I just think I'm a bit sensitive to framerate these days so obviously YMMV.

A lower res TV doesn't help unfortunately. It'll still render at the original res and downscale to 1080p. Seems to be outside of the range of VRR on Xbox as well, but hopefully that helps a little. I might just skip the RT shinies and go for performance instead. Bah!
I might just save these for the darker evenings anyway.

Played the first hour of RE3, and, for, example, Jill as well as lights/lamps are reflected in glass, you get better reflections in puddles, etc. It's nothing major, but it's nice to have. Performance is incosistent as well, but good enough fo rme to leave RT on, but I did the same thing in Village.

Did a quick (very quick) blast of both RE2 & 3 and I can't in all honesty say I noticed much in the way of any difference at all (as I suspcted, mainly because I thought even the PS4 versions looked amazing). Not enough to have me play through them again. The odd reflection was very nice mind you, but I think I'm done with them.
I could be tempted for another RE7 play though, as I've only ran through that once. I'll grab it next time it's on sale.

Played all three for a few minutes. Don't notice the RT too much, but the higher resolution/native 4K is nice. Forgot how nice the neon of Raccoon City in RE3 looked. Performance-wise, 3 and 7 fared well, I thought, but 2's a little more inconsistent. 2 starts out smooth, but after some minutes can get a little stuttery. That's to my eyes though. Maybe all three actually run terribly but I don't crazy John Linneman eyes to be like "split second dip to 58fps? Should've capped it to 30 instead!"
