Unfortunately I think 6 is most similar to 1 and 2. 4 is good, 5 has its moments but is a bit too bloated imo. 0 is a lot of fun but 6 is the best of the lot, it's very streamlined and the story is good. I would go with 0 to see if you can get yourself back into what the series has become now. If you enjoy it then go back to 4 and go from there.

It's a shame they didn't "Kiwamify" 3, as I found combat to be a lot clunkier than the others (but I guess it's still worth playing to follow Kiryu's story).
4 & 5 are good, but it took too long between character segments and by the finale I'd forgotten half the moves (they should've jumped between characters every few chapters).
I loved Zero, Kiwami 1/2 & 6.
Like a Dragon was great and although I like turn based games, I preferred the real time combat of the others (I'm still surprised they made such a dramatic shift).
They just need to make a Majima spin off & I'd die happy (as long as I got to play it first!).

3 just need a lot more work than they did. tbh I didn't enjoy 3, everything felt worse eg combat, side missions, new characters etc

So after I "finished" zero, I deleted it and got Kiwami installed and ready to go. 24 hours later I found myself reinstalling zero as I decided I wanted to fully complete the real estate and hostess club mini games first. It's gonna take me years to get through this series at this rate isn't it?

Never played any of these, but lots of them are dirt cheap on PSN at the moment - around £7-8. Got Zero downloading now.

I recently finished the story on Zero, my first Yakuza. Really enjoyed it, 40 hours of fun combat and narrative. I dipped into the side stuff but found the real estate and hostess bar a little clunky and obtuse.
There's some great characters in it and I'm tempted to carry on with the series, but also to skip it and jump to Judgment and Like a Dragon for my next fix.

You could get away with skipping to Judgment but if you plan to play the earlier games at some point I would advise not to play LaD first unless you don't care about spoilers. I will be playing Lost Judgment as soon as I can...

Has anyone played both PS4 and PS5 versions of Judgment, obviously 60fpsand higher res is great but in screenshots, the more stylised PS4 version looks better to my eyes. What about in reality?

I haven't played the PS5 one but there was a lot of negative feedback on the change of 'the look' of the game. Not sure if it has a demo, may he worth a look as I believe the PS4 one did (but SEGA delist them quite quickly)

It looks fine. The real benefit is the 60fps as once the game starts getting crazy then the cutscenes get more and more elaborate. The only thing that threw me off coming from the original Japanese PS4 version was the change in Hamura’s actor.

If you already have the PS4 one I would probably just go with that to be honest, unless it's literally 13 quid like the PS5 version is on the Japan store. It's a great game but with the new one coming out then the updates will be even better.
edit: Just checked and the J version does have selectable text language. You can buy PSN tickets on Amazon Japan now so if you have both a Japanese PSN account that you use and an Amazon Japan account then maybe go for that. They don't do 2k tickets but you can get two 1100 yen ones or a 3k one. The game's 1980 yen.

Judgment PS4 is on PS Now at the moment. I played the PS5 version already and it's nice enough but it doesn't really look like anything more than a hi-res PS4 game. If you have PS Now or the PS4 version already I wouldn't pay extra to upgrade.

I played a bit of Yakuza Zero but got sidetracked. So therefore my first real Yakuza game is Like a Dragon, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I did think about playing through the whole series, but there are so many games that I decided not to.
I am waiting for a sale on Judgement though, and have my eye on the next Judgement game being released next month. The stories and characters really get me invested in these types of games.

I played Yakuza 0 and loved it, but I heard Kiwami 1 was really similar so I thought I'd take a little break before starting it ...It's been years now, can I get on Kiwami even if I don't remember 0 anymore? Hopefully this time I just go through the series, I own them all too ffs

Looking forward to Lost Judgment this month. Actual story DLC gives me mixed feelings, An extra 20 hour story expansion could be nice but it is digital and we will likely not get a complete pack or standalone physical... Still getting main game though at the very least.

I'm on Chapter 7 on LAD and really loving it, usual batshit crazy story and characters but it's a proper JRPG and messing around with different jobs (classes) is great. The Management game is oddly addictive as well, caused me to unlock Eri who I really like in Combat. It's taken ages though, don't Sega know about my backlog?

I have stupidly gone in to a dungeon on LAD and now an regretting it. Good levelling til a boss I am struggling with. Wanted to grind up but...

Yeah, some of the bosses in the dungeons require a bit more effort than the regular goons but if you have access to the dungeon it should be doable if you have enough items for healing and SP. If not, you can always level up in the dungeon bit a few times to make yourself higher level to face the boss.
As for me, playing and enjoying Lost Judgment. Up to about chapter 7 or 8... I will say that the Skateboard helps make Yokohama/Ijincho quicker to traverse than walking.

Am I wrong to want a HD Remaster of Yakuza Dead Souls?
I miss it, and it gets progressively more difficult to set up older systems. Dead Souls seems to be the only one left out in the cold by Sega, it's got lots of regular Yakuza stuff in there and I've never minded the other stuff that gets all the hate. There's a dungeon crawl side quest near West Park, 100 floors of zombie survival onslaught, I made it all the way once and got wiped out by a boss in two hits, I have no idea how but one day I'd like to beat him.

It keeps getting rumored that Dead Souls and the weird 17th century spin offs are being planned for remasters soon.

To be fair, Ishin just needs a localisation as it is the same engine as 0.
Dead Souls is on my to do list but I started Kenzan first so will possibly play that one first even if my rusty Japanese makes it slow (and it being the first game on the engine Y3 uses makes it a bit clunky so could do with a remaster).
