Finally caught up with this. Looks good.
Not really understanding the complaints about Pratt? Heās not doing his normal voice, thereās some Brooklyn Italian in it - you can hear it as heās running over the mushrooms at the end. Itās not Martinet at all, sure, but I donāt think itās bad.

Its just his time. There isnāt and wonāt be anything technically wrong with it, people are just sick of him and heās so overexposed, the movie will feel like Super Emmet Brothers.

I think itās also that the initial reaction was āheās going to sound like Chris Prattā, then they went to great pains to go āno, no, no, no, heās been working on his voice for ages, itās unique and you wonāt believe it when you hear itā and then when we heard it, it was Chris Pratt with maybe a vague hint of Noo Yawker if you tweak the levels and sit next to the speaker.

Is he overexposed? He does, what, 2 films a year? Same as any other working actors.
If you follow everything he does - Marvel (4 movies, 5th on the way), Jurassic World (3, finished now), Lego (2, finished years ago), Tomorrow War, Onward, Passengersā¦ other stuff? - thatās your fault, not his. I just donāt really understand why he gets the flak.

Probably because he has two modes, Andy from Parks and Rec, and Andy from Parks and Rec who got in shape.
Also that the announcement that heād be also voicing Garfield coming about five minutes after Mario. Which will no doubt sound exactly like Chris Pratt, only maybe he occasionally says meow.

I don't think he's overexposed compared to the next white guy in action movies. I believe he's the totem for the generic white guy in movies and as a result of very online people not liking the fact that he's part of a church that has problematic views and he's never espoused what his political leanings are even though he does come across as someone who is a Republican and therefore people by definition don't like him. He was liked when he was all chubby and shit on Parks and Rec but as soon he got buff and famous for GotG that was when, again, online people began to dislike him.

The voicing issues arenāt his fault though. Itās like when Reynolds did Pikachu exactly like Deadpool - the studio dictates how they sound. Theyāre hiring them on the back of their voices, not their talent in creating new ones.

I didnāt think it would need to be explicitly explained but it was obviously a general āyouā. If someone feels that heās āoverexposedā because they watch all his movies and shows, and read articles about his religious views and love life, they should probably not do all of that.
Detective Pikachu does have an in-world explanation but I think I read something about Reynolds wanting to do something different and the studio saying āno, just be youā. Nolan North got the same thing for a while after Uncharted gaining so much attention.

I like Bob's Burgers more than Archer. Archer, for 3 seasons, was fantastic. Some of the best TV around. Bob's Burgers has been consistently better. |

Yeah, this. Surprised there are people out there that actually wanted the Charlies Martinet voice or something akin to that - it's fine for the odd line in the games, but would be terrible for a whole movie! It's not really Mario, it's Chris Pratt playing Mario, and that's fine - he did the Lego Movie and that was great (and this seems like it will have a similar everyday man out of his depth in a strange new world-type theme) so I don't understand all the criticism based on a couple of lines of dialogue.
Good point about the Lego movie. I didn't know who it was when I saw it and it was a fun film. I think his name recognition is working against the movie for gamers that know about Martinet and will be positive, or at least immaterial, to the billions of everyone else on earth.
