Heading home solo after the first day of our 5 day Easter break, so I’ll be seeing what delights the Eurostar terminal in Gare du nord has to offer before the train. Reckon Paul does an abby style ale in the frisge Why cut short?

Our neighbours pop in to feed the guinea pigs whenever we go away, we forgot that we got the spare keys back off them to give to the estate agents… obviously closed for Easter as well! Worked out pretty nicely for me tbh, a few days peace and quiet to crack on with work

Parfait. Better that than a dead guinea. We had that when I was about 7. Went away for Christmas and it snowed a lot. We were late back and the neighbour who had been feeding them left the lid off the hutch (which was in the shed). Poor fucker froze to death.
Starting today with a hazy Jane. Quiet one today, bit jaded after one too many yesterday.

They might have survived until tomorrow, but then again they might not have. Didn’t fancy playing schrodingers pig, pretty horrific holiday waiting to find out.
I’m about to have a Duvel with my Waitrose curry, might stick on 3 body problem. What’s that dear, you don’t like the look of it? Too bad, I’m living the bachelor dream today

I'm drinking mead again tonight. Trying not to overdo it before work tomorrow, but it's very quaffable.

Glad to hear all's well that ends well, elstoof - I must admit, I wondered whether something awful was afoot when you said you'd had to cut short your trip. I've always had a soft spot for guinea pigs. On topic, I was going to try the BrewDog Grind I nabbed from Tesco last week... but I reckon I'll save it 'til tomorrow.

Had a couple of brewdog lost lager on the train, I normally avoid brewdog at all costs but fancied a lager. It was ok

Found that quite disappointing. I quite like a few of their beers but there's a bit of saturation going on. Not much between a lot of them.

Ulythium I like the Brewdog Grind, decent coffee stout. I find Brewdog weird in that I find a lot of their stuff mid, but occasionally they do something I quite like, like the Grind. They had a fantastic limited run coffee stout called Roaster Coaster a year or two ago, I think the run ended but that was sublime - pretty much tasted like an iced coffee, but a stout. Anyway this evening I had three bottles of Gem and possibly might hit some Jack Daniels. I've been able to cut down on drinking quite well but I'm back to work tomorrow after a week off so I'm using the excuse that this is my last day of holiday. Plus I'm not really sure what I'm actually doing tomorrow so can just use the "catching up on emails" excuse to avoid having to do any work if I'm hungover (I've already caught up on the salient emails this evening as I like to check emails the day before going back to work just to prepare myself for any clusterfucks, but things seem okay. Which further makes me think a mild hangover wouldn't be a biggie)

Still got another week off, hurrah. Will have a couple of days off though, going out for the day with the kids, meal etc on Thursday so will save it for then.

Does anyone homebrew? I’ve got my first batch of IPA about a week into its primary fermentation. The trepidation is very reminiscent of when my partner was pregnant.

Yeah, I don't think I would be saying that either...
On topic for last night an Overtone 'slow wave' 3.8% - very nice. A Camden 'Eazy' Hazy ipa, a bit meh and a Williams bros 'Strata' also 3%—odd so light & easy to drink . Wasn't sure on these to begin with, but they've grown on me.

I had a couple of Hobgoblins last night, not as good as I remember it being a few years ago

Hobgoblin Gold is a winner. And their Session IPA is a bit middling but is only 2.8%, so not bad to avoid a hangover. Not enough of those imo.

Mash gang 'Chug' 0.5% beer while watching the first Scottish cup semi-final. Going running later so behaving.
This is really nice. Expensive, but probably the best/closest to a proper hazy pale ale that I have tried so far.
Recomededed.

Are you sure it’s only 0.5%?

I’m a Duvel to the good and got my finger hovering over the buy button while internet shopping. Still feeling a bit hungover from Friday night out in the west end and a 700g hawksmoor chateaubriand for 2

A single measure of Johnnie Walker Black Label.
Even though I've been a single malt snob for quite some time, I still have a sizeable soft spot for Johnnie Walker - it's the brand that got me into Scotch in the first place, way back when, and drinking it always imbues me with nostalgia.
All that aside, I actually think that Black Label holds up very well in its own right. If I fancy a whisky, and none of the Islay single malts are available, I'd choose it over any of the alternatives in a heartbeat.

3 pint cans from Arbor Ale. Nothing to strong, but do find myself craving more booze now.
Fortunately I've got nothing else to hand.
Shouldn't be drinking at all really but it's just better then being sober.

Took a gravity reading on what I am dubbing Pika-Brew v1.0. All going well. Adding hops on Tuesday. Main issue is I need a way to serve it cold. Garage temp is about 14 degrees and only going to get warmer so not really working as a cellar. Going to scour Gumtree for a cheap fridge. Or I could bottle it, but that’s a lot of cleaning and sterilising.
I’m so fucking middle aged.
