Good landlording can certainly make a massive odds.
You wonder why some grumpy fuckers got into the business. Although, sometimes that schtick can make an atmosphere for popping in for one for some banter.

Had a Campo Viejo Rioja - reserva 2017.
By "a" I mean "A bottle of".
I like it. I'm not enough of a wine connoisseur to really have a strong opinion, but of the wines I've had I do think the Rioja's have been my favourite. Not a fan of sweet jammy wines and this seems more savoury? Good mouthfeel too, like a bit denser than a Shiraz or some shit.
Again, I'm no connoisseur but I like this more, and I *think* that's why.

A Brewdog 'Almost famous' neipa. Was nice.
Currently, a blue moon. Which is nice & refreshing too.
Well earned beers post-gym just taste better.
Also had a creme egg & some walkers cheese and onion crisps.
Which possibly undoes all the squats/deadlifts etc, but hey, it's the weekend!

Nice, congrats!
Kicked the arse out of it on neck oil at a gig last night, feeling very fragile. Beer whilst cooking didn't go down well. Gin (Isle of Harris) is going down a bit better but I don't think I'll have more than a glass of wine with dinner and done. Had two 2am finishes in two days, am ruined.

That's a nice bottle of wine. I love rioja too - not as full bodied as a Shiraz and usually less ABV. I usually have rioja, malbec or an Italian wine (could be Chianti, montepulciano or a Nero d'avola). Basically whatever Lidl have cheapest!

Ah, see the first one was because it was Maundy Thursday. The best day to drink ever. And yesterday was a gig, kids were at the grandparents etc so made the most of it! Wasn't allowed to wallow today though.

I too love a decent Rioja.
My other half works for Asda and it’s double employee discount weekend (20%). Couple that with the 25% off 6 bottles of wine deal they’ve got on and I grabbed 6 bottles of their Extra Special Gran Reserva Rioja for 40 quid earlier. Nice bottle of wine, that. I shall be down to 5 bottles later tonight.

Does anyone drink tequila/mescal? My wife bought a slightly more expensive bottle than I would have for cocktails as it was on offer, and I've been drinking it straight, it's intriguing...
Any recommendations? The smokier the better!

Mezcal can be great. There seems to be a good variation in taste profiles, and as you say, some be quite smoky.
I'm afraid I don't know loads about it, just had some here and there but it's something I want to explore more.
Tequila is the most well known type of Mezcal, and even that can vary loads in quality!

Not tequila as such, but Patrón XO cafe is absolutely fucking lovely. Well worth having a bottle of that in your bar.

Went for a swim, first time in about 4 months. Took a lot of willpower to not crack open something. This extended time off work is just reinforcing that retirement might be quite bad for my liver.

Just tried the new Peroni Capri, rather nice and refreshing. Think I prefer this to the usual Peroni.

On topic, nothing until after 11pm by the looks of it as our lad disappeared off to his girlfriends who lives about 15-20 miled away with minimal consultation, so I'll have to go and collect him later due to a lack of buses from there.
The selfish git.

Madri - Spanish beer, seems to be everywhere in London at the moment. Think there were bought by Heineken (suprise).
It's good, but not up there with the likes of Estrella, for example.
Peace x

Peace x Sadly, I think this was one of those brewed by Heineken without it ever going anywhere near Spain. I may be wrong though. I don't actually mind it though. Lots of neck oil today and then wine. Yum.

Still got a bit of work to do tonight but it's OK as I'm on the red, got some happy tunes going and picking at some nice bread & oil but I have to say, drinking this cheapo red plonk from Lidl (£4) really reminds of the home-brewed red we had when staying in a villa in Italy years ago. Funny how tastes and smells can evoke such memories.

Oh i could fair go an aperol spritz.
Was out in the sun earlier in the evening, but had to go to the gym instead.
Knackered now, but having a Brewdog 'arcade made'. It's ok. Definitely not an aperol spritz though.
Maybe tomorrow...

Moretti, Peroni, Nero d'avola. Before and with pizza after a cracking day out at Pompey historic dockyard. No arguments, strops or anything by anyone in the Dougs Family. Practically a first.
