Just had a Manhattan, cracking open a Gamma Ray pale ale now. Fucking knackered so it’s hitting me like a ton of bricks, love it Gamma Ray, another one that will fall foul to Heineken or whichever has bought it.

Got to enjoy it before the recipe gets ruined! I’ve had a few large Canadian clubs and fit to pass out. Later taters

I really like the beavertown beers. Pretty much all of them are decent. I really hope Heineken doesn't fuck with them too much. 😢

For the second consecutive weekend, watching Wasps (try to) play rugby has driven me to drink:
Better than the draught-style canned version, but still nowhere near as good as I remember it being.
Maybe they've changed the recipe; perhaps my memory is failing me; hell, it might even be that I've mixed up Pale Ale and Torpedo.
Regardless, I ain't going back to this particular well.

I like the Sierra Nevada California IPA. It's a bit lighter I think.
Anyway, I bought some Madri today. Now,I know it's a bit of a Big Beer cash in on continental lagers but it ain't half bad you know.
Disclaimer: I have no idea if this is another beer that used to be imported and now brewed under licence etc.

Never really been a fan of Sierra Nevada, personally. It might have been the first craft beer I tasted when I was new to beer. Just tasted bitter for bitter's sake, without tasting good, IMO.
They did have a lovely Trapiste-style Abbey Ale some years back though. Ovila, I think it was called.

There are definitely a lot of IPAs that are like that. One of the things that puts me off them tbh. But if you try enough, there are plenty to enjoy!

I quite enjoyed Sierra Nevada's Hop Hunter, very happy but in a good way. Believe it uses hop oil.

I recieved my Wild Beer 10 year anniversary box.
I was tempted to hold off drinking any until I wasn't just sat in front of my computer.
I've since drank 6 of the 10 beers in the box.
To be honest, whilst they've all been very well balanced the only one that stood out is the Hay Harvested Pilsner, as the hay really gave it a good floral / herbal nose.
The Enso Wild Ale has the gimmick that the yeast was extracted from an abandoned wasps nest but I don't think that's actually made much difference to the beer.
I mean, they are all good beers. They are all very well balanced; even the hoppy Hops Obscura had a solid malt backbone that balanced things out.
But they're also just beers. I think there's a limit that can be reached with beer. Like after a point my pallete just stops discerning the nuances. After which you need the gimmicks, but those only work if they are built onto a stable base.
It's 50/50 if I'll crack open any of the remaining four beers.

Einbecker Mai-Ur-Bock.
It has a nice maltiness. I've only had the one so far, but I can see myself going through the six pack since it's so drinkable.

Had a pint of Rosie’s Pig rhubarb cider last night, with all these trendy grapefruit ipa and whatnot I was expecting rhubarb to be a description of the taste due to fermenting methods and yeast profiles. What arrived was a pint glass full of bright pink alcopop.
Was ok

I sometimes wonder if alcopops have improved since I last had one probably half my lifetime ago.

A bottle of Mencia topped up with the occasional Woodford old fashioned.
The wine is... complex. Not sure I'm enjoying it but I'm half a bottle in and not slowing down.
Also just remembered that I put my name down (and have saved for) a Naked Wines Christmas Box. Get in.

A freedamm, and 0% Guinness so far. Probably a beavertown lazer crush low alcohol beer later too.
Behaving for a few weeks until going for a booze blow out in the October holidays.
At least, that's the plan. Work/life nay tip me over the edge before then. I could fair go a negroni about now.

I think the nicest booze I've ever drunk was the €1 per bottle of home brewed red by the owners of a villa we rented in Tuscany about 15 years ago, context is everything. Drank about 20 bottles between us in the week we were there.

Still on an AF kick. Tried a concoction last night that kind of works... Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, ice, soda water and a few squeezed lime slices. I'll have to get a bottle of ginger beer for tonight.
AF beers just strike me as the same kind of thing as vegan bacon... Why bother? I'll give one a try at some point, but that'd probably just make me want to try the good stuff more.

I get what you mean, but to answer what was probably a rhetorical question - I like AF beers when I want a beer but don't want to get drunk.
I've tried soft drinks and I don't get the same sense of satisfaction. Too sweet. (I do drink soft drinks regularly, but couldn't drink 3 or 4 in a session.) If course many AF beers have the same issue.
Beer has a bitterness and body that soft drinks don't. I actually do like the taste.
And I want something to do between turns at my boardgame nights, and there is a social thing where I find myself being self conscious that I'm not drinking when others are.
That's why I bother, at least.

Crazy Haze by Stewart Brewing, a Lidl special. It's trying to be a neck oil or Hazy Jane but it just misses the mark. Slightly hoppier than those. Also a bit too gassy. Not bad though.

drhickman1983 - Cheers, reading back my post sounded quite dismissive. Definitely makes a lot more sense in that kind of scenario. I can't really do moderation though, it's all or nothing for me. I'll probably get a few in to try over Christmas as I'm sure it'll be torture being around everybody else merrily drinking away.

Bumbu rum and ginger beer.
I'm farting into the couch and scrolling through bumble. About to have real cigarette rather than a vape.
I'm a lot like James Bond.
