My sister's boyfriend's surname is Meese, so now I'm wondering if he's made of several mooses.
Doubt he's two moose wearing a trenchcoat though, moose are massive and he's not that tall.

Sometimes I'll open the browser on my phone and I'll have 4-5 tabs open and they're all 'recently updated threads'.

On Radio 4, today’s Prayer for the Day was by an old Presbyterian minister called Bert Tosh.
For once it literally was, a load of old tosh.

Used to work with a guy that used mayhap instead of maybe. And would say "Mayhap, Mayhap not" if you asked him something. I wanted to jam a pen in his eye. Somewhen instead of sometime is a favourite over here. An instead of the time being twenty five to the hour, it's five and twenty to.

Somewhen instead of sometime is a favourite over here. An instead of the time being twenty five to the hour, it's five and twenty to. The latter is very continental! Continental or Yorkshire? Mrs Hermit says Five and twenty past/to much to the amusement of everyone. Only those though, she wouldn't say 5 and 10 past for example.

So against my own wishes Mrs Mercury insisted on setting off to buy a hamster for the youngest earlier, realising the cage we had was completely unsuitable (too small - surprise surprise) they decide a dwarf hamster would suit (settle for as that's the cage size we had) however much amusement was had (by me) when the sales assistant dropped the box containing said hamster and it darted off across the shop floor at a lightening pace, queue three shop assistants rapidly reaching for shopping baskets in an attempt to catch it. Anyway my amusement soon faded when I foolishly suggested we should abandon said dwarf hamster idea because they're so bloody small and fast as to be impractical pets and buy a bigger cage for a normal size hamster and low and behold I am now monetarily involved in said hamster, something I'd said all along I would not be. What a surprise.

Hamsters need tons of space, not so much the footprint but depth to burrow through substrate. I built a habitat for our Russian dwarf because all the ones to buy were too small, 1m wide, 60cm deep and another 60cm tall. Those fuckers can cover a few miles of running every night, hardly ever saw her until she went blind and didn’t know what was daytime or nighttime

Yes well I've tried to have nothing to do with it but been drawn in as ever, Mrs Mercury has claimed several times she knows all about hamsters having had them when she was a child, surprisingly keeping a hamster in a cage the size of a shoe-box is not really acceptable nowadays .... the little shit shot from one side of the store to the other in about 2 seconds, like one of those wind-up toys, I was blessed with a panoramic view having sat down on some bags of dog food at the front of the store!

Sod hamsters, rats are what you want. I'd absolutely have a couple more of them if we had the space and the cats wouldn't terrorise them.

I was taken to Oxford for mine. There's loads of bars and clubs, that seems to be the minimum requirement met. Ngl the history stuff sounds great

It's quite badly laid out as a city. You've got the uni buildings in the middle then most of the going out stuff is laid out to the north, west and east. North is the poncey middle class wine-bar and over priced cocktails bit, the west is the tourist and theatre and chain pubs bit, the east is the cosmopolitan culturally diverse restaurants and independently owned bars full of students bit. Despite it being a tiny city, it takes fucking ages to get around because everything is so all over the shop, and it's all very expensive. Couldn't think of a worse city for a big lash tbh.
Also, most places aren't actually that good either. Roul's used to be really interesting and fun cocktail bar in the north bit, but that died during covid and the name and location got bought out. It's now a shadow of its former self.
If you're travelling there, I guess you're going by train, which is the west. It's a fucking nightmare getting anywhere else from there. Even a taxi is awful due to a one way system and that long fucking bridge that goes on for ever.
So, er....yeah. Have fun!
