Imagine the dude that pushed the update that broke the entire company. I mean what do you do? Go home and lawyer up?

So you lot think it’s an internal mistake and not a malicious attack?

I’ve got facebook but not the other two back. I was sort of looking forward to the possibility of a few days of silence.

Dammit, I wanted a real downtime of weeks. The slavering goons will be back in force now I'm waiting for the first claim it was an attack from Liberals / Communists / Greta / Lizards / Reverse Vampires. It might be made in jest, it might be made as a shit post, it might be made sincerely. But I'd be surprised if it doesn't crop up somewhere.

It's impressive how they can put out something so concise and informative so quickly.

Its some Tony Blair level hubris of Facebook to have such a fundamental vulnerability that a single DNS error could cause them to lose all of their websites but also comms and on campus physical security and they obviously assumed that they were too good, big and important for it to ever actually happen

The funniest thing is that during the whole outage I didn’t see one mention that oculus rift was also down.

The Verge’s coverage mentioned Oculus, so you just put that in your pipe and smoke it.

(actually, that was the only reason I realised there was trouble in Zuck-land at all - looks like I really did successfully extricate myself from that ecosystem quite well - only my Quest 2 would've clued me in )

The BBC reported that “some” oculus users had reported an outage, presumably they could only find one or two who knew where theirs was
