I should like to apologise for my behaviour last night.
I shouldn't have made even my half-arsed attempt at defending the word 'slapper', as my reasons for using it once the other day are even dumber than a secret deep-seeded loathing of all women.
I have recently been watching every episode i can find of Shooting Stars on youtube, and in one of the Christmas specials, Bob just casually says to Ulrika 'come on you old Slapper'. The line was delivered in his usual twinkly fashion and sounded kind of cool, but this was a series with either Lamar or Self as a team captain, so loooooong ago.
Times have moved on and i'm usually more of a Vic Reeves kind of guy anyway.
Like the word 'broad' it's just a word i hear used occasionally in old media (and sometimes new - Ruby Riot used 'dumb broads' as her catchphrase) and i like the way it sounds, without giving any real thought beyond that. Although 'slappers' is obviously quite overtly offensive.
I believe i used the word to describe some of the women who made a move on me at an old office. That was wrong. At least they had the nerve to try and make something happen, while i am here in a similar situation paralysed by indecision.
If using those words is so out of place that people actually remember them being used, then that's probably enough reason to have more of a think about it. This isn't an epiphany or anything, but i'll try to be more thoughtful.

Really, there is no need to worry about getting me anything. I've just realised that i have inadvertedly taken a photo of every pair of shoes i've owned in the last 7 years. Anytime i start a new book i always take a photo for my instagram followers and my online book group, and because of how i sit, my shoes make it in. I've had some pretty snazzy boots, but looking back at them i just think 'did they say all they could about the type of man i am'. I'm not sure. If i took that photo again, but with cowboy boots on, i think my following would grow. It's quite interesting though, starting from the first one and going through them all, my footwear seems to have evolved like a Crackdown 1 Agent.

I have a wonderful image of everyone else in that online book group reading like, the latest Kazuo Ishiguro or some indie darling they heard about in The Observer, and Rodimus proudly submitting TMNT.
Edit - which, to be clear, would be fantastic, no book snobbery here

It is basically exactly like that... but most people are pretty nice about it. It's not so much about what you have read, so much as what you have to say about it, and i have a lot to say about IDW's Turtles. It's excellent. If anyone doesn't mind spoilers, check out the below three photos i had to share with the group. It was one of those issues where you go to the park to eat your lunch, and go back to work with a lump in your throat. And their Transformers series, despite not being as overall strong, reaches those same highs. i.ibb.co/LkM0GHp/1.jpgi.ibb.co/8xvfnJB/2.jpgi.ibb.co/SN4fMfb/3.jpg

Mrs hedben used to do one where they'd all read the same book and then meet up to discuss it. As you'd expect, half of them didn't bother reading the book and it was just an excuse to down a bottle of prosecco with friends once a month.

That sounds like a good plan too to be honest. It's the same with the bookclubs in the library where I work. One book everyone reads. Though I think I'd hate reading anything other than fantasy. Give me Druss laying into enemies left and right every time

I've read quite a few important pretentious books but they wouldn't be my first choice either.

I know a few yo-yo tricks from when Coca-Cola held that promotion in the 80s, also I own some full length cowboy boots.

Was Sprite rather than 7up wasn't it. For about 3 weeks in the mid 80s they were the most important thing on the planet.

Reading the last few pages I do feel that, at some point in the future, the Police will be reading through here to better understand the motives behind the crimes of Stetson Simon and his preferred killing method of slicing dames up with a sharpened kids plastic sheriffs badge.

It was all about the 'viper' when i was at school. 2002 ish. People would swap one half so you'd have a sort of multicoloured one. And the yo-yo shop had a card thing they'd hand out where if you could do all the tricks on it they'd give you a stamp and you'd move onto the next tier. Good times.
Except for when some kid stole my pink and white one. I saw him go into my bag and take it, but he just denied it. I gave him several opportunities to do the right thing, but he flat out refused. So i saved up four weeks of pocket money and paid one of the school bullies to beat him up after school and retrieve it.
I remember that day well. It went down in a park near the school, and the thief was laying on the floor crying. I remember doing that trick where you throw the yo-yo down hard so it doesn't come back up - a sleeper, they call it - and just let my yo-yo spin for a few moments, inches from his thieving face.
I pulled the yo-yo back up, and knelt beside him, informing him that i could really fuck him up right now if i wanted to. But i didn't. Instead i taught him two valuable lessons. I taught him about not taking things that don't belong to you, and i taught him about mercy.
I should look him up, see what became of the wastrel.

I’m worried that “Yo-yo” is Rod’s name for his penis.
