Partner discovered somebody had nicked nearly £3000 yesterday when they got a text warning them that they were going to go overdrawn. These were card transactions that somebody was using to pay their utility bills with, and had started on Tuesday. Scary once discovered. They hadn't even started with a few small transactions to test the waters: straight into paying nearly a grand to Everflow for their water; paying Tesco and Barclaycard too!
Quite how they got the full card details - i.e CVC - is unknown right now... And fat lot of good the Visa/Mastercard protection schemes are if they didn't ping transactions with new vendors :/ Perhaps they know the billing address too?
Yeah, cards cancelled and money refunded after about an hour. Apparently there had been more transactions pending which had been flagged as fraudulent.
I think this is one of the pros of the new banks: I’d get a notification immediately of the transaction and be able to flag and block the card quickly.
They're phasing those out in favour of apps these days. But yeah, I can't set up any kind of payment without getting notified about it. Normally have to do an automated call to verify its legit. /edit Ah, just saw that it's card payments. Yeah, you get fuck all notifications for that really unless its suspicious enough to trigger alerts. I tend to use a revolut or amex for everything rather than my debit card.
I need to renew my UK passport. You can do it online, but the requirements for the photo seem draconian and unrealistic. I’ve used a well lit room and plain background on a new ish iPhone ; but everything I upload is judged ‘poor’ uneven lighting and ‘likely to be rejected’
No, I don’t need it at all, but just in case we want to get away. The news stories of the Passport office backlog have gone quiet, so thought I’d give it a go.

Pretty sure Snappy Snaps aren't that much more expensive than a booth but think they'll redo it for free if it's rejected, which it shouldn't be seeing as they generally know what they're doing.
