I WFH so over the last couple of years have developed a decent home office setup including a standing desk. It wanders ever so slightly over time with the constant up and down, so every so often I just need to lift it back a cm or two. I was down on the floor this evening doing just that, when I noticed an intermittent orange light from one of my USB cables lying on the carpet near the desk. I do not have any USB cables with orange lights. And certainly not halfway down the cable itself...
Looks like the USB cable - a decent braided brand - had snagged between the desk and the skirting board at some point as the desk wandered, and was happily sparking away like a tiny Mount Doom on my carpet for God knows how long...
Check your cables chaps, and don't have nightmares.

Finally caught up on season 2 of The Witcher, which is why I went back to Witcher 3. Just started Rings of Power. Witcher Season 2 looked expensive, but Rings of Power looks expensive. Praise be to Bezos. Once I burn through this, I'll probably check out House of the Dragon as well, so I guess my entire autumn will be devoted to fantasy TV. A Fall of Fantasy, if you will.

Can't remember the last time I had a spam phone call but I've just had a legit phonejacker moment with 'Peter' offering me 'very good value over my current dealings'
Peter: You would no longer have to pay your bill and going forward it would be a payment that is 40% less than you're currently on. Shall I move you over now?
Me: No thanks 'Peter'.
Peter: But it's a very good and with a shiney Galaxy Samsung 22
Me: Hangs up

I want to get one of those so that I can test out the Google call screening thing. Haven't had one in months though

I use it to basically screen everything from numbers I don't know or don't indentify themselves nowadays. It's great. Together with Google's spam screening service, it's made having a phone for incoming calls pleasant again.
I haven't had a mobile phone offer from a "Carphone Warehouse" operator in "London" (Hydrabad) or a pre-recorded Londoner asking me about the accident they heard that I had for ages now.

Fucking hell... You can almost picture Donlan desperately looking around his flat for inspiration when he realised he had to have a subscriber article ready for the following morning.

What's crazy is that there has almost never been as much to write about re: video games. We are in middle of a huge fucking boom. From browser games to mobile games to big AAA games to little indie games. From mainstream gaming platforms to smaller unofficial handhelds. The retro and arcade emulation scene is masive, nearly everyone and their mums are making video games themselves and there is a fucking abundance of NEWS.
Yet half the articles on EG are non game related, and the gaming related ones are pretty thin on the ground anyway. Bizarre.

How is it that you just suddenly know that there's a huge fucking spider nearby.
Sitting here writing and have just been staring at my screen. See no movement, nothing, even in the corner of my eye. Yet suddenly I feel compelled to turn to my side and look down at the floor. Nothing. It's a patterned carpet and at first I can't discern anything there. Then he moves. Just a bit.
Fucking. Massive.
That is, without doubt, the biggest spider I've ever had in this house. At first I though it was some kind of eight legged cat. Threw a paper box lid over it and ran down to get a glass. Then came the exciting moment of lifting the lid, not knowing if he'd be on the inside of the lid or not. He was. Of course he was. So I flip it over and just manage to get the glass over him, even though he was so massive I nearly cut his legs off as he was too big for it.
Outside you oversized bastard. I'm not bothered about spiders but I could have put a saddle on that one and ridden it into work tomorrow.

You helped me with Rom once upon a time. Pretty sure you can deal with a tiny little house spider.
Just remember to roll through its AoE and you'll be fine π€£

He's going to bring friends in when you're asleep.
You should have burnt it to a crisp, put his charred body on a tooth pick and placed it somewhere all the spiders could see.
You're fucked now, it was nice knowing you Wunty.

Walked into the kitchen this morning, went to turn the light on half asleep but instinctively stopped. A massive spider was just coming down on his web next to the switch. If I hadn't stopped I'd either have slapped him against the wall whilst turning the switch on or worse, had it crawl on my hand. /Shrieks.
