As a dark souls nub who has a pc & series s, what game/platform would you lads recommend starting with to give the series a go? I’d say DS:remastered on your Xbox - if that’s where you prefer to play with a controller. Performance shouldn’t be an issue and the game is brilliant. I got summons (help) easily enough a few months back, and I guess hackers shouldn’t be an issue on Xbox I've been playing through Remastered on Xbox just this week, and there are plenty of summons (And invasions too, for what it's worth)

All this talk makes me kinda sad I didn’t double dip and get DS:r on the switch and bring that with me on holiday. Just pumping str and standing toe to toe with the gargoyles zweihander in hand less then two hours in made for such a different experience to the long, scared, meticulous journey first time around. I never revisit games, but this one might be the one.

Oh you've got to revisit souls. The first playthrough is only to help you decide what you're doing for your next playthrough.

Exactly. I *still* haven't done a faith build throughout yet.
Get too excited when a bkh drops
As opposed to the fucking balder side sword

I've wrung all the enjoyment out of the series that I possibly can, but I still occasionally get a build idea I want to take into PvP. Yesterday it was a poison build with Toxic Mist and the Rotten Ghru Curved Sword for DS3, and call it Auntie Vax.

I'm thinking of complementing my DEX bandit with Oolacile magic because why the hell not. I went pyro with strength on my first ever run, never done a full faith or sorcery build. I suspect if I tried to do a full magic build I'd probably end up with a huge sword and shield anyway - just like always doing a stealth archer in Skyrim.

Nah Sorc builds work really well - unfortunately you still pretty much need a +14/15 physical weapon for the DLC (to get Dark Bead), but a +15 Rapier or Balder Straight Sword, about 20 Dex and a heavy dose of patience work well enough

I'm pleased to say that after somehow completing Demon's Souls earlier this year, I have now started my fourth or fifth attempt at Dark Souls (but first since Demons!) Every attempt has been a warrior or Knight, the standard melee one basically, this time I'm going Pyro as heard it can be very over powered which I need as I'm shit at games.
Read I should be pumping into dexterity to make casting spells faster and then upgrade the spell when I can, does that sound right? I've put a couple of levels into vitality too.

Humperfunk The benefits of dex for spellcasting aren't worth leveling up dex for alone. If you're putting points in a stat it should either be giving you damage or survivability, and dex does neither if you're not using dex weapons. Also, spells cannot be upgraded, but you can purchase stronger version of certain spells. These have the drawback that you can cast them fewer times and take longer to cast; you can also just make your spells stronger by leveling the relevant stat. Pyromancy is the exception given that it gains strength by the level of your pyromancy flame, not your stats. That means you can slap pyromancy on any build you like and it'll keep pace with you damage-wise as long as you invest the souls to upgrade it.

Thanks mate. I must say I've found the levelling etc much more confusing than Demon's!

I always think of trying new stuff with skyrim but always end up stealth archer with illusion every damn time! Too much fun

After managing The Depths without using a guide I've kept on going and made it to the bottom of Blight Town. Christ some of it was tense - those bloody toxic dart goons are a pain. Much more fun too though, using a walkthrough was good for not missing important stuff, but it killed some of the joy of exploration.
Not going to face Queelag completely unprepared though...

It's a tense experience isn't it, doing it all the way through. Still puts me on edge going from top to bottom in one careful run

Spider shield is good for blocking the toxic darts. Thank god they don't respawn

I've got the spider shield AND the tattered robes, but I still have to leg it across the branch near the wheel elevator or I end up toxic. Just can't get a line of sight on them with a bow, they shoot too quickly.
Not entirely sure where to go after defeating Queelag and ringing the bell- New Londo Ruins? Think I missed a key on my way down, and the guide I've been using (retrospectively now, rather than in advance) maybe isn't the best for actual logical progression because it's for 100% completion. It keeps skipping around and doubling back saying "we don't need to be here yet, just light the bonfire for later and then leave" etc

Sen's is certainly the next place to go traditionally but there are a few areas that should now be okay for your level and would be a little disappointingly easy if you were to go to them after Anor Londo. Catacombs (especially to get the item Pinwheel guards), the upper part of New Londo Ruins, all of Darkroot Garden and Basin and finally a visit back to the Asylum.

Having said that, I'm now realising I skipped the Forest Hunters, so I'll probably go back and do that first - or at least get the dark wood grain ring. My favourite chaotic PvP tactic at one point was equipping a massive heavy weapon and approaching slowly, then going "psych!" and flipping around with it at <25% encumbrance* *tactic did not actually work that well, but I like to imagine I surprised some people before they slaughtered me with their quicker weapons

I've already done the gardens apart from the bit behind the Artorias crest, and I got the rusted iron ring from the Asylum but didn't fall through the floor to do the second boss yet

That boss was rough for me. Caught it in some kind of loop to finally bleed it to death. Also get the thing that lets you do the thing in A Londo while you’re there

You'd have to do Pinwheel very early on for him to be anything but a pushover
Asylum Demon isn't that bad, just stay behind him and run away when he does his AOE

You can go to sens straight away, but the snake guys are a step up in toughness - you'll need something strong to be able to wade through. Catacombs is definitely do-able, but it's kinda like being locked in there till you've done it all - can be hairy in places. Or yeah, Forest hunters for a bit. Plus the basin if you've not already done it via the gardens.

Decision made, I'm off to be a Forest Hunter! Just need to grind 20,000 souls for the crest...

You can do runs of the undead parish killing the balder knights to get the 20k. Takes a little while, but it's relatively safe and you're never far from bonfire (can just use firelink and go up the lift each time, take out the guys in the parish itself, go out the front door, turn left, kill a few more goons, and then back to the side entrance of the parish where you first encounter the non-respawning black knight guarding the firekeeper soul)
Or if you have a couple of boss souls and look up what they create - if you're not interested in using the soul for the weapon it creates, just consume it when you've got the require remaining souls from the balder knights.

I was going to nip to Valley of the Drakes actually, those guys give out 1000 souls each and there's 5 of them right near the lift from the Darkroot Basin bonfire
