We were just explaining Lily Savage to some of the younger staff in my office a couple of weeks ago. One of them occasionally does drag but hadn’t heard of Lily so we were trying to show them that until Drag Race came along what Britain has was Lily, Dame Edna and panto. The poor lad couldn’t believe the working men’s club vibe and general roughness of what O’Grady was doing back then.
Its a shame he retired the character, it would’ve been fun to see how he might articulate the last view years through that voice.

Lance last week and Paul this week. Very different people but I'm just as sad about Paul that I was about Lance. One of these guys that over the years has been such a fixture of TV and radio since my youth. I always enjoyed listening to him whenever I caught him on R2 before he left.

That's a shame, quite unexpected. Know he had some heart issues but seemed to be in good health.
One of my favourite clips of his Savage act.

His far too soon death helps highlight that people trying to bring that anti-drag shite over here from America are barking up the wrong tree, Lily was loved by so many and no-one gave shit apart from a tiny minority of weirdos.

Yup - a friend of my wife's is a drag queen and had an epic rant about how the UK has loved drag since forever (highlighting Edna, Lily, panto dames etc), so stfu and enjoy the entertainment.

Raab just paid tribute to him in the house of commons by calling him 'Paul Grayson' and drivelling on about 'wokeism'.

I'm sure the former Essex cricketer is delighted.

Im trying to work out whether he merged him with grayson perry, another man in a dress, or Larry Grayson, another gay guy.

Fun story - my dad, with a fairly tipsy Paul O Grady, helped a VERY drunk Cilla into a taxi and the pair of them were bickering all night like an old couple.

Basically every newspaper this morning has Paul or Lily on the front page apart from the Mail which is screaming about how gender identity is endangering children. If you wrote the scene into a tv show it would be too on the nose to take seriously.

If English isn’t your first language at one point you start listening to lyrics from songs you’ve heard all your life and I remember distinctly telling my dad that Whiter Shade didn’t make any god damned sense.

RIP. You're The Voice is one I've always wanted to try at karaoke, see if I can get the arms in the air, then air-bagpipe the instrumental - tough timing and range on it, John Farnham was still nailing it until his mouth cancer.

Paul Cattermole of S Club 7 had died. 47. Fuck. Don't want to get all LetsGo but he was 46. Seems like only yesterday people were taking the piss out of his appearance at the reunion announcement. This was him only a couple of days ago. I've already seen a few of the usual "died 'unexpectedly' did he 💉" type comments... RIP.

Hard to say what it might have been. “No suspicious circumstances” could be a sudden illness, taking his own life, misadventure… who knows. Really sad news regardless. Way too soon for anyone.

I wonder if he was feeling too much pressure from the reunion. Of all of the members he seemed to be the one that didn't really want to be there.
