Damn. I'm not familiar with her work, but it does hit different when the person is younger than you (me).

Hang on, is that an age or not?
Because, there’s a lot of ages here, but apparently some of them don’t count.

I'd be happy to reach that age before dying. Although I'd also be happy just to have a few years of actual retirement before dying too.

(assuming you are replying to the 92 year old post!) Assuming we all want to live for many years, hopefully in good if not terrible health. I have the number 86 in my head for me, and that I will just sort of drift off (a man can hope and dream). That means 36 more years. I can't leave this world until my kids are in their 50's...I just wont!! My pa went at 71 (just having turned that age 8 days earlier) with IPF, he had it for around 3 years beofe passing. I think that was too young, but I suppose it was not. Age is so peculiar, I listened to John Williams who is 90 on Classic FM last weekend, not only does he look what 70 ? he sounds years (decades) younger and then you will see a 60 year old that has the Grim reaper in there rear view.

My dad died at 56, so I have low expectations.

It would be nice to have some retirement, but given it's already been pushed back to 68 and my current list of ailments of niggles, I'm not thinking it's very likely. Also, it would probably quite lonely as Mrs Hermit (who is currently enjoying her early retirement) is 10 years older than me and isn't planning on hanging around until she's 80.

I'd like to get through my 70s at least, especially if I end up retiring not long before them... Anything after that doesn't really seem worth hanging on for.

I honestly didn't picture myself living past 30 with the way my depression was in my mid-20's, so the fact that I'm now approaching 38 has come as a surprise.

Ah man, it counts. That's desperately sad. One of the good guys. I wonder if Kotaku are going to even acknowledge his passing and his massive contribution any time soon.

A celebrity to those of us of a certain age whose artwork set the tone for some mighty 8-bit mags from Newsfield... Oli Frey has died. A nice compilation of some artwork in Jaz Rignall's thread below. Feels as old as it is - 40 years or so, but still remember owning some of those ZZAP64 mags. Oli Frey is not only a legend, but he inspired me to pursue a career as an artist, and when things seemed like a difficult pipe dream, I reached out to him for advice and he became a mentor of sorts, suggesting avenues and lines of dialogue with numerous people to create what became for me a lucrative career in commercial art. He even suggested doing porn to make ends meet, which is how he started out. I had an invite to his funeral, but sadly I couldn't go due to distance, but Oli will always remain a guiding friend in my life. He was ill for a while, but it comes as no less of a shock. RIP you giant gay artistic velociraptor of a man.

Peter Straub has passed away.
I've not read a lot of his work bar Ghost Story and his two Stephen King collabs but I loved all three, and will get some more of his novels read.

Yeah I liked The Talisman. I think it's getting some kind of adaptation soon, which will hopefully fare better than The Dark Tower.
RIP

RIP Pretty sure I read The Talisman as a kid when I devoured absolutely everything the local library had to offer. Saw it mentioned the other day in relation to King's latest, so had been meaning to reread it.
Horrible news about Fahey too. Always enjoyed his articles on Kotaku. Definitely a huge part of what made them essential reading in the early days.

I searched “dirtbox porn” and, well, let’s just say it didn’t disappoint.

I have read a lot of his books and quite enjoyed them (found him through Talisman), never had too high a profile in the UK but got most of his books over the years from charity shops.
