Funny, never really ‘got’ Meat Loaf. I guess I’m more familiar with his Rocky Horror appearance than much else, probably to my loss.
My abiding memory was of my uncle telling me a of his ‘Bat out of Hell’ album and letting me copy it on my new twin-tape system I’d got for Christmas (likely ‘84). I listened to it constantly for the holidays but then put it aside. Probably the only music I nicked using that system, the rest was for archival and ‘back-up’ of all my mates c64 games.

Didn’t like his music and saw a documentary a while back that confirmed all my prejudices.

One of the first (non-kid) songs I can remember loving was I Will Do Anything For Love. And then Bat Out of Hell.
I know that they're probably not that great in an objective sense. But I loved them all the same, and still do. And you better believe that I'm going to be playing them at full volume at work tomorrow, regardless of how annoyed my workmates get.
RIP you big, beautiful man.

Think Bat Out of Hell is still one of the best selling albums of all time, isn't it? Or was that maybe just in the US?

over 500 weeks in the uk charts or something, isn't it? fond memories from the 70s and early 80s when young me lapped it up but he was a shadow of himself without steinman

Sad news. Love BooH. Especially For Crying out loud.my dad used to play this album on rotation , on his lovely Technics seperates (1970/80's) only a few months after Jim Steinman...Bonnie Tyler must be shitting herself! but seriously a great artist and watching interviews a very warm individual. I have Bat on as I type.

Ah, shit.
I know a Meatloaf tribute act, apropos of nothing in particular.

I'll see if I can still sing along to all the parts of Paradise by the Dashboard Light later. I don't hold out much hope though.

It's a valuable perspective. Right, sorry :/ In my defence though, any other artist, if you don't like their stuff you sit through those 3 minutes and stfu about it. This guy goes on for 20 minutes about some girl he fucked in the 60s.

One of the strangest moments in Rocky Horror (somehow) is when he crashes through the wall on a motorcycle. It’s a tribute to how mad that film is that you just kind of roll with it and move on.
RIP.

INTERESTING FACT: Bat Out Of Hell (the album) was slightly sped up when it was first mastered which is one of the reasons why it never sounded the same when he sang it live.

I remember as a kid on a Saturday being trawled through all the shops with my parents for the weekly big grocery haul and seeing his album EVERYWHERE. He was the Adel of his generation.

I admired his stance on not doing anal sex in “I would do anything for love”.
