Add me to the (shit) list of people who did not like it.
Pretty sure I got swept up by the hype first time but when it actually came to playing it, I just found the whole thing boring AF.
Remedy are a weird one for me, loved Max Payne and Control but everything else has been disappointing.

I'm in the camp that enjoy it. Been playing this a bit this morning. And just to be a geek I played some of the 360 version to compare. All bull aside I'm finding this hard to recommend if you already have the 360 version. Flipping between the 2 versions and apart from the resolution increase I'm not bowled over by it.

Is it really not that much better? I'm still swithering but if it's not a massive improvement I may just grab the 360 version cheap and shove it on the One.

If you find this cheap somewhere then go for it, but you're not missing much if you get the 360 version.

Just to nitpick it has more standard enemy types than RE7 Ackshully I haven't touched any Resident Evil released post Revelations 2, that's disappointing if so.
The other key element is behaviour, assuming the footage in the Alan Wake Remaster review is representative. Let's think about Resident Evil 2 for instance. Zombies, Lickers and Hunters move and behave differently, require different tactics. It helps keep things interesting when you have enemies that do different things, I'm not saying Alan Wake has to be Resident Evil, I'm saying the encounters look dull, probably because of a lack of variety in enemies and their responses to the player.

Sigh. I bought it anyway. I need to stop doing this. More games than I have time to play them goddammit. I think the final nail on my willpower coffin was the fact that I remember quite liking all the voice over shit and I'm kind of in the mood for that kind of King-esque shit just now.

It's a good one for October too. I'm tempted to grab it after watching a couple of reviews, especially with the gf away next week.
I should just smash through some stuff from my backlog though.

Well yes, my backlog is just stupid these days but, yeah, I'm weak. I also have given two games a try this year (Doom Eternal & Sekiro) that I didn't get on with first time and loved them, so I'm hoping it'll be third time lucky with this. Now my expectations are in check. Part of the reason I didn't get on great with it first time is that I thought it was, well, something else. But it's an action game, and I'm going to treat it as one now. It gets an extra couple of points already because it's in the same universe as Control.

Yeah, a Wake > Control playthrough could be good, and I've been meaning to run through the latter again.

Yeah me too. Could be a nice precursor to another run through.

Epic only on PC, eh? Hmmm ... I may hold off for a bit.

I'm not even sure it'd be worth it on PC. The old version can already be made to run at 4K60 with relatively old hardware.

Yeah, I literally finished off an old saved game the other week at 1440p.

I had a quick look last night and it seems fairly decent. I agree that it doesn't look like a massive visual overhaul but just nice and sharp with some updated models and I actually quite like Alan's new face. I think I'm actually looking forward to skulking around the woods in the dark for a week or so. I don't actually think I ever did the DLC parts either when I owned it before.

You can see the difference but its not major.
Did noticing some tearing though which oddly enough the BC programme completely removed from the 360 version.

I certainly wouldnt of paid top dollar for it, but I picked up a code on Eneba for about £8, so certainly cant grumble.
I enjoyed the game on my PC at the time. Im not expecting much in ways of visuals upgrade over the PC version tbh. I just have the benefit of easy couch play now.

Few episodes in now and getting back into it as I go. Forgot all about one of the characters (an FBI agent) and he's easily one of the most annoying characters I think I've ever seen in a videogame. Such a cunt.

I can't remember him at all. I think there's big parts of the game I don't recall actually. All I remember is Barry wrapped in Christmas lights.

Has anyone made a good Alan Woke joke/meme yet? I can't be bothered to read the whole thread.

I cracked and picked this up last night.
I’m guessing they’ve given the textures a polish but if I didn’t know better I probably wouldn’t notice that they’d even done that much. Not that playing older games bothers me. The most dated thing has got to be that wooden run animation though.
The narration being even cornier and more pulpy than I remember is a big bonus. It was always one of my favourite things about the game.

I finished Episode 1 earlier and I'm really enjoying it actually. No, the combat isn't great still but I'm prepared for it so it's not bothering me like it did.

I actually think the combat is good, having a blast with it.
Got to the driving section in episode two last night, and yeah that was shit.

Forgot there were dirving bits. I am actually enjoying the combat this time around though, much to my surprise.

I’d totally forgotten the driving too. Looking forward to trying it for myself.
I remember wishing there was more semi open world exploration/mystery stuff first time around.

That was my issue. I went into it expecting something more slow burning, less linearity and more daytime interaction with the environment etc. So I was always disappointed to be in the woods at night after a cutscene. Now, because I know what is going to happen, I'm better prepared and more open to enjoying it for what it is, as opposed to what I thought it would be. Had the same issue with both Sekiro and Doom Eternal, kept wanting the games to match my expectations as opposed to playing them for the games they were.

Credits rolling on the main game for this. Not played in a few years, but still really enjoyed overall. And in regards to the ending, it gets a plus point for still having David Bowie/Ziggy in the credits.

Bollocks. Borked my save. I do hate it when there's just one autosave with no way of going back to the previous one. Going to have to restart the chapter because I foolishly ran out of flares just before the game decided to save. I was about 90 mins in as well.

Is it one of those games that won't let you create separate saves manually?
That always frustrates me. Ideally I like to alternate between three different saves, just in case I need to turn the clock back a bit.
