Gotta say, I'm feeling pretty goddamn bleak about the situation myself - the euphoria of kicking out the right-wing populists at the election seems like an age ago, and now we have our own version of MAGA cultists rioting in the streets. Rent-a-fash morons, using Facebook and Twitter to spread racist lies, then using the exact same social media platforms to coordinate their acts of thuggery. Muskrat openly supports this shit, while Fuckerberg doesn't seem to care either way. Still the media refers to "protests." Still they refuse to call a cunt a cunt. So... yeah. Bleak. Still, I reckon if anyone was somehow on the fence about racism, seeing this rabble would push you over to the side of commonsense.

Blackpool is hosting the Rebellion punk festival this weekend, and the attendees have not stood for any fascist shit. Whenever I see the kind of crowds those old school punk fests get I really think it could go either way in terms of how skinhead-y they’ll be. There's always a right wing undercurrent in any extreme music, but the voice of reason always wins out. Because they've actually got fuck all to say, for the most part. Time is the greatest editor of culture and quality outlasts mindless noise.

Of course, but I still google every new black metal band I discover and it only takes a stray oi! band to ruin an old school punk bill

Just read that Starmer is due on his first holiday as PM next week, really really hope he gives that one a re-think right now.
The earlier calls made to try these lot under terror laws, I thought was maybe extreme. Now I've seen some of the horrific footage on twitter, I honestly hope they do.

Even Cameron cut his holiday short when the Croydon / Clapham / Tottenham riots happened. And this is way worse than those.

Had to laugh at the counter protesters in my town outnumbering the pathetic turnout from the fascists today.

Just seen the news footage from Hull of shops looted yesterday. Shoe zone, Greggs and a mobile phone shop all smashed up.

The best bit is ENGLAND tattooed just above a Great Britain flag. To quote Trump "I love the uneducated". Has anyone told him that his "ENGLAND" typeface is an immigrant? fontgeek

know that road well, so many flats above the shops round there so it’s a blessing more didn’t catch fire as the whole lot would have gone up…to torch that library is horrific as well, it’s a supportive hub for the community so lord knows why they’ve targeted that heartbreaking thing is, I could name some of the children I’ve taught in that area and pretty much guarantee they’ll have been there last night…😔

Those cunts setting a library on fire in liverpool, its time for the riot police go in hard and crack some skulls. Actually hit them around the head, fuck it, enough is enough.

It's a bit weird to see all the pictures of big groups and stories of dozens of injured coppers and then read '10 people were arrested'. Seems like such a small number that no wonder they're emboldened.

I’ve got a feeling, round there, it was an easy target for them. A lot of the individual shops are shuttered up, whereas I don’t think the library/community hub is. Horrific thing is, the people doing it are likely those the building was refurbed and set up to serve and help. It’s heartbreaking.

Seems like such a small number that no wonder they're emboldened. Making large arrests is difficult and dangerous at these type of incidents. To safely extract an individual from a group that will fight and defend each other requires a team that if successful, is then out of action for a bit whilst they deal with the person. As frustrating as it can be, it's better to gather as much evidence as possible at the time and make the arrests later where possible. If that means some people get away, can't be identified etc, that's just an accepted risk.

A library in Liverpool, the Citizens Advice Bureau in Sunderland, mosques, Hindu temples . . .
Guessing its food banks and nursery schools next on the list of buildings these morons will be looking to “protect”.

Though it does feel like arresting more people early on would have the dual benefits of removing them from the field and hopefully deterring some of the others. Or maybe it's just enflame them. *Shrug*

Yeah look, I'm not biased or anything (I'm a librarian), but I can't think of an institution less worth attacking than your local public library. It's the only truly free public space that still exists, and libraries over in England have enough trouble surviving without cunts firebombing them for no reason at all.

As a former librarian - I fully agree.
I ran job club in Newcastle at a branch where we were working with the local Job Centre and foodbank that features in I Daniel Blake to help people write CVs and do job searches. Neither of those other places had the facilities or time to do it. I did every kind of community event you could think of for kids and adults. There’s nowhere that can offer a community space like that anymore.

Seeing images from the protest of racist dickheads with the Union Jack and the Irish Tricolor walking shoulder to shoulder. Almost feels like a staged op otherwise they're so blinded by their hatred they've forgotten that actually we could co exist without the need of hatred of an "other".

The most violent and ring leaders amongst them are terrorists and should be treated as such. Support the police in controlling the protestors while rooting these rioting scum out from their homes and throwing the full force of the law at them. They have to return home at some point. Those they can arrest during actions the better but not at the expense of creating as much safety as possible for the general public.

It was staged, sure they bussed themselves up for the photos of the day. I bet they weren't out waving it around Sandy Row with their new "brothers" as it burned. Likely had their Translink Dublin express booked for before it kicked off.
