I did shooting in OTC at uni, I was pretty good (at shooting from a static position at a static target 200m away that isn't shooting back at me).
I also really enjoy clay pigeon shooting.
It's just as fun as I imagine archery would be.

Archery is fucking hard. I did a form of combat archery in a car park and it was mental.

And errr...rape is cool now? Fairly sure it isn't. I imagine rapists think it is.

Maybe if Eric got over his fetish and sold some of his guns he could afford a full-size bed.

You can't really rape safely on a raping range. Not sure about the comparison there

I think there should be 'and if you're not hurting anyone' on the end of it though. I don't think nick was saying shooting people is cool

A long thread (with pictures) of American's with their guns. Even the dog thinks she's got way too many guns.

Those people and their collections upthread illustrate something you’d never think to be true; fewer Americans households have firearms in them today then in the past few decades
It’s the fucking bizarre people who have 20,30, 70 guns who are driving up the number of guns in the country

If it wasnt there wouldnt be millions of hobbyist range shooters around the world. You can wring your hands all you like but people like shooting stuff." Like it or not, guns are cool. Its why people buy them. People come up with all kinds of bullshit reasons that they *need* to have one for XYZ reasons but, fundamentally, guns are cool and they make you feel like a big man when you shoot them. Thats it. My rape analogy was stupid, I apologise for that but I find the "feel like a big man" stuff pretty pathetic. Don't think there's much tp be gained in continuing this, I don't think killing animals for fun is really ok either in a modern civilised society when it's not necessary so there's no agreement to be had here.

I think anyone who owns that many guns should be required to carry them every time they leave the house. All of them.
They'd soon stop.

People enjoy shooting stuff IRL or virtually and get pumped while they do it. Its not a very difficult thing to get to the bottom of.
People are asking 'why do people own guns?'. The answer is because they think they are cool. So good use of bolding there.
EDIT: And in america they are told they need them to own the libs

Seeing other kids being taught at such a young age how to handle guns is just so sad and scary, frankly. I grew up on a farm and was taught how to shoot and handle guns from quite a young age. Its just a hobby and guns are cool. The problem, really, is capitalism which is why America is the only country that gets shot up regularly. The fact that something so fucking dangerous is less well regulated than buying alcohol or gambling is just a symptom of Americas broken political system. They have bought and paid for light touch regulation and successfully manged to make ownership a political issue to the point that 'gun' is a personality trait for some people. In a normal country, people should (and can) be able to own guns, take them to a range while nursing a semi and not shoot up a school or a convenience store afterwards. Isn’t saying the problem is capitalism almost as reductive as saying the problem is gun laws? In the same way plenty of other countries have gun laws similar to America but don’t have their gun problem, those same countries have capitalism too. Appreciate you go on to be specific about the broken political system, but I can’t help but feel the elephant in the room is more ideological/psychological. There’s something about the American version of exceptionalism that seems to relate to not ever admitting mistakes, on both a micro and macro level. Almost a pride in sticking to wrong decisions in the face of all evidence because goddamit America is the best goddamn country in the world and even their mistakes are awesome.

Having unlicensed guns leads to more profits than having licensed guns. It’s the lobbyists making the decisions and paying the politicians to agree.
I’m not sure it’s some deep-seated American psyche thing, that’s just the cover story (Real Americans Want Guns, YEEHAW) to grease the wheels of gun sales.
Edit: it’s similar to saying private gun ownership is ‘protected by the constitution’. It really isn’t, it’s spun to seem that way but that wasn’t the intention or what was written and only works that way if you wilfully misinterpret the second amendment and leave some if the most important words out.

I mean, Im not American but the stuff I have seen indicates that the issue is that Americas unique brand of turbo capitalism allows for money/businesses to exert such an enormous influence on their political system that it impedes what most other countries would consider normal governance.
Like in this country, and I appreciate this is very apples and oranges, after dunblane the government just acted rather than being hamstrung by lobbyist and politicians bought and paid for by the gun industry.
I dunno, it seems like a system that was functioning properly would be able to address issues like healthcare, drug prices, guns etc etc without being continually hobbled by industries their politicians are beholden to. Most capitalist countries also run with a dose of socialism to enable them to actually get things done, America doesnt seem to have that balance.
= capitalism bad

The constitution is sacred. They have NEVER amended any of the amendments or added any amendments since 1791.

Like it or not, guns are cool. Its why people buy them. People come up with all kinds of bullshit reasons that they *need* to have one for XYZ reasons but, fundamentally, guns are cool and they make you feel like a big man when you shoot them. Thats it. When I went to a Clay-Pigeon shoot with work years and years ago, it didn't make me feel like a big man, it made me feel uncomfortable. So they may make you and deranged Americans for example, feel like a "big man" but you're not speaking for everyone. Rape makes some people feel like big men, no idea why people "hand-wring" over it, rape is cool. Like it or not, that's why people do it. Your logic is a bit suspect. nowt like taking things way too far in a post....

Ecosse has done clay pigeon shooting.
Ecosse sees rape and clay pigeon shooting as equivalent.
Therefore ecosse is a rapist.

I used to fire air guns in scouts and it was good fun. I also fired proper handguns and rifles at a target range on a ranch in Texas in 2019 and that was also fun. I never felt the urge to rape anyone however. There were also many women on the course that day and to my knowledge none of them wanted to rape me.
