The drug/cheating/whatever rumours sound like wishful thinking to me.
I don't like him in the slightest, but he's at the top for a good reason. Guy runs around the court ridiculously quickly, and has the most insane mental toughness and focus of anyone not named Roger Federer. At a certain point he just stops making mistakes, and you can't win against that without playing a perfect game.
But yeah, he's a cunt. Just a very talented one.

No worries, ARE boy Tsitsi-fast will thrash him up and down the court just for you all
And for *checks notes* Margot Robbie, apparently?
(I'm being sarcastic but it's actually pretty ridiculous how many here -as in, Greece, not the forum- paint him as such a loser, as if routinely going to final stages of major tournaments is easy... Not that I think he has much of a chance against Djokovic, but...)

Well, I for one am very suspicious of him doping. Very.

No one at the top of sport isn’t doping, it’s just not feasible. I’m not sure what you could drink in the middle of a match to give you an edge though so I don’t think that’s any red flag. The inhaling powder one was also weird. I just can’t believe you’re allowed to send a bottle over from the coaches seats when you aren’t allowed to communicate with your coaches during a match. Maybe there were some tactics written on the bottle

If he's doping, he's probably doing it within legality. I assume that tennis officials would be checking him regularly, because they don't want a Lance Armstrong kind of situation.

Big name stars get their misdemeanours overlooked precisely because no sport wants a Lance Armstrong situation

See also Usain Bolt. Almost every single Jamaican sprinter got caught doping except the biggest Olympic star in the world, whose splits leapt up to world record breaking within a year after treading on below average splits prior to that.

Big name stars get their misdemeanours overlooked precisely because no sport wants a Lance Armstrong situation I mean yeah, it's possible that there's just massive corruption and there's conspiracy and cover-ups and whatnot. But it's also possible that he's just a really consistently good tennis player, and I think people discount that too quickly. That said, there's also lots of (non doping) conditioning methods and training machines and whatnot that only the top players (ie. those with money) get access to. That isn't particularly fair, but right now it's not illegal. I'd be happy to see evidence or proof of doping, I just haven't seen anything convincing so far.

Anyway, the biggest justice this year would be Novak missing the final because he caught Covid. That would be delicious.

The attributes you listed at the top of the page are all thing that benefit greatly from blood doping, EPO etc, things that greatly increase your stamina. He just has the type of Grundy playing style that suits doping more than most on the tour

For the most part he isn't grinding out wins or brute forcing his opponents though. He's got a very efficient style and tactically plays the right shots more often than not. It's not the most exciting style to watch but it's hard to argue that he isn't the best player on the tour.
I also think if he was doping and no-one else is there would be a lot more talk and rumours than there are. They dogged Armstrong for years before he was actually caught.

That just suggests to me that most are at it, at some level anyway.

There has been plenty of rumour about him doping over the years. Not quite Lance territory not certainly large questions. Same thing with Bolt.

A select few in the media dogged Armstrong for years, the UCI were entirely complicit throughout the scandal. I don’t believe there’s any pro athletes that aren’t doping to some degree, it’s absolutely rampant at amateur levels. Some people just benefit more, or can tolerate more, or are willing to take more health risks

Eg Andy Murray, Federer etc. Zero chance they were doping in their pomp for me. I just don’t think everyone is but some just shout “doping” to me:

The only confirmed doper is Murray. He's 35 and none of his matches last less than 10 hours. I mean, cmon.

It's a pretty disappointing final so far. Too many unforced errors.

She's even grunting for shots that she's not swinging the racquet for.

This doesn’t look like it will be much of a contest. Tsitsipas needs to work on his backhand, it’s such an unconvincing looking shot.

Biased as I am, I'm pretty sure that if it goes long are boy Tsitsipas is losing it. I don't think he has the experience to keep his cool in marathon matches just yet.
Would be interesting to be proven wrong though...

Had no idea the French Open had started, let alone now at the semi final stage. Crap it's buried away on yet another sub platform.

Same here, happens to me with every tournament apart from wimplyton now. First I heard of this was my mother in law, who lives literally opposite Roland Garros, complaining about the noise

Can't be good for the sport. I know we all get a bit "when it was just fields" but sport needs to be accessible to inspire people. I played a lot of tennis as a kid as it was on the telly a lot. Don't even think there's any public courts near me now.

It’s really no wonder we can’t produce top players from the U.K.
