Well, what can you say? It's a game of two halves.

Yeah we lost. But also, Ronaldo.
The Lord he taketh, but when he giveth he really giveth.

Was kinda hoping Morocco Portugal would go to pens and Ronaldo would be the one to miss.

France lucky to come out of that game with the win. The two best teams remaining faced off there this evening and the better team of the two lost. France should piss the rest of the competition but all of the fixtures are pretty unappealing in prospect.
England have mostly banished the hoodoo I think. Unlucky on the night but really you lot bossed it. Commiserations
Edit: of course if Kane doesn't fuck up the pen I think you win.
Also lol at the shit ref. It's not often you can genuinely be aggrieved at the refs performance when you've got two penalties but the fact that he didn't give the second one in real time was incredible.

Argentina v France final then. Weird I’m rooting for Argentina just because a win for Messi would actually physically pain Ronaldo.

Sorry my going to bed didn't help this time.
From the highlights it looks like it was actually a decent game and they played pretty well. Ref seemed awful. Tough on Kane.
Feels much easier when they went out in a decent game playing well, rather than going out on penalties though.

What will you all do once Ronaldo retires?? Be 14.7% more content on an ongoing basis* with matters regarding to football. Non-trivial, I'm sure you'll agree. Nothing like fucking FIFA into the sun, contentment-wise, I'll admit. *in the unlikely event that someone else doesn't emerge to rival the legend.

We're going to be an absolute force in the next decade with this young team but do we have any young strikers coming through, can't really think of any at all? Joe Gelhardt at Leeds has shown huge potential, but already seems to be made of glass. Nketiah might still come good.

Yes talk sport give these idiots a voice so they can say Kane is too old then say someone older than Kane should have played instead.

You have to be a special kind of moron to piss on Harry Kane. He is genuinely a world class player and has carried his team both in club and international football.

Wow, incredible that you would ostensibly think you like football enough to travel to the world cup but actually know nothing about it at all. It's genuinely incredible that someone could hold such an idiot position.

If I was a manager (haha) I think I would have a rule that if my penalty taker scores a pen they wouldn't take another one unless its in a shoot out.
Pressure on kane would have been about as big as it can get and he then has the extra of knowing he may have to mix it up a bit.
However I fully understand why kane took it. So not really a criticism more an observation.

Poor fucker, the thought going through his head must have been immense. So many variables. I think he just wanted to put a bit extra on it to give Lloris no chance. Can't blame him, he was excellent. Agree re Saka and Foden too - odd decision that handed the initiative back to France.
I have a headache now too.

I feel for Kane but I’ve no doubt he’ll be fine. He played really well all tournament.
I still feel a bit gutted as I reckon we would have gone on to win it if we’d got through there. This could be a really strong team at the next few tournaments.

“Luckily” he already gets thousands of abusive things said about him every day, so he’s probably got the tools to deal with it. He is probably reaching the ‘fuck England’ stage of his career, but I hope he doesn’t quit early. I really doubt he will, he seems to absolutely love -laying for England, plus he’ll want to put some distance on that record.

Yeah he won't quit internationals.
Think he's actually missed more pens this year than any other. If anything he will likely go back and put some extra practice in but you know full well he will step up right away next time England or Spurs get a penalty.
Don't see Southgate going early either and if he did who do you get in?

What will you all do once Ronaldo retires?? I wouldn't put it past him to announce it during the World Cup final, in a misguided attempt to deflect attention from Messi lifting the trophy.

Predictably, Saka and Rashford are getting racial abuse again. This country is the pits.

Don’t think anything needs to change with the England set-up. Frustrated to go out but still much happier with the manager/squad now than I ever have been.
Also, did we really want the first World Cup win after 1966 to be Qatar Winter 2022?

With our recent record I would be begging Southgate to stay..semi/final and a qtr and not shaming ourselves in any of them..coming down to the smallest of margins.
We're worlds away from the cretins and unlikeable mob we had before. With a manager the players like and a record to back it up.
These players got another two tournaments in them and I reckon Gareth should take them there if he wants it. Even kane could look to giroud at 36 and think he could be at the next world cup in some capacity.

I think this was a big tournament for Gareth and he showed he could find the balance between his conservative nature and our attacking talent. I’d be more than happy for him to take us on to the euros.

It feels like Southgate’s record is a good one -certainly better than anyone else the century- but England are arguably still just going out and losing to the first properly decent opposition they face in the knockouts and this France team are better than Italy or Croatia were. Lots of young players who are going to be incredibly experienced going forward into the next tournament so just need to get over the mental hump.
Its a real shame that the exit is bringing the worst out of “fans” when the team and manager are both so likeable and have done loads to reverse the classic perception of the England team and its support.

I think you usually lose to big sides by being toilet, you were good last night. It really was two big moments for France that ultimately won the game.
I know it appears to be a continuation of a familiar pattern for you but analysing the game in isolation it was a really good performance and I think I'd you can keep the group of players together like they clearly are, they will do it at the next competition.
They are at least always in with a genuine chance which you just never were for years and years and years.

I remember in my footballing days having to play in a RAF tournament where we played 4 games in a day and on the last game it went to sudden death pens.
Guessing that might be equal to one pro match in terms of the energy you put in.
I had to take a pen and my legs were jelly by that point, cramping up and shit. Never mind the fact I was bricking it.
Luckily the keeper dived the wrong way and the ball barely reached the goal and I hobbled back to the halfway line.
X1000 in terms of pressure it must have been on Kane.
I have sympathy, but I'm Scottish, so you know, not a lot 😄
