If there’s 10 people with covid in Israel then that’s a pretty good percentage

My interpretation is that in the UK and Israel - both way ahead with boosters - the age stratified cohort yet to receive any vaccines are also the cohort that account for the highest percentage of total cases...nearly half of all cases in Israel and around 25% of all cases in the UK.
It's not that crazy is it...Woeful disinformation?!
It shows how effective the vaccines are.

Also, cohort is already plural

This thread becomes the easiest way to become depressed, I guess most avoid it now for the same reasons.

Who would have thought a thread about a global pandemic would be depressing?!

As elstoof pointed out, you claimed that it’s “focusing infections” which is bollocks of the highest order. Also stop getting the term cohort wrong.

You’re making the mistake of assuming booster uptake figures are the only factor, it’s far more complicated that that

Its more the constant bickering over numbers and lovely people throwing hate at chosen groups like the stupid or poor out of basically imo depression and anxiety, nothing wrong with feeling those but a forum about font geeks doesn't seem the best place to get it all out.

Well, 3 and a half weeks after testing positive, still have a nasty cough but my sense of smell seems to be coming back gradually - seems to be about 25% (weird to try and put a percentage on these things, but hey, why not - I reckon 1 in 4 smells are getting through!).
As a double jabbed relatively fit 50 year old (yes, another one), this thing kicked my arse and did the same to my wife - I hate to think this could be a semi-regular experience from now on given that other than vaccines, there's apparently no government appetitite to limit the spread via mandatory mask wearing and whatnot.

Glad you're feeling better which is the main thing. Think I'm, just going to continue wearing a mask regardless from now on. There's all sorts of bugs would like to make a home in me and I'd rather a lot of them didn't.

Not sure that logic works as I'm pretty sure masks are more about stopping you from infecting others than getting infected yourself.

I managed to catch covid last week. I'm fully vaccinated withe the fancy Pfizer Biontech vaccine. Covid is doing the rounds (again) in my childrens school so both the little ones had it as well. The eldest had a fever for two days and nothing more, the youngest was completely unaffected.
As for me it was like a really bad cold. High(-ish) fever for three days, runny nose. Eventually lost mys ense of smell for two days. All in all I was too tired to do any work for five days. But I'm still tired, a week later. It gets worse the longer the day progress and I usually feel a bit feverish at around seven in the evening.
But I've had far worse bouts with regular flus and I'm guessing the vaccine played a part in that. I was never close to thinking about going to a hospital.
I'm thinking this is the way it will have to be, get vaccines, be prepared to get floored for a few days once you catch a variant. Keep plugging away at vaccinating 12yo and even younger than that. The vaccine will make this manageable. We can't keep on closing shit down as just because covid is out there. It won't go away, life must go on.
Take your shots people.

Not sure that logic works as I'm pretty sure masks are more about stopping you from infecting others than getting infected yourself. It is mostly for that, but it also protects the wearer (especially if you have an N95/ffp3 mask). Wearing one means you will tend to get a lower payload of whatever bug you get exposed to and thus a lesser infection. There's been some studys on this which suggest wearing a mask reduces the chance of becoming infected from between 7.5% (surgical mask not tightly fitted) to 90% (well fitted N95/ffp3 mask). Average multi layer cloth mask seens to protect around 60-70%.

More Covid outbreaks at my kids’ school and nursery so more PCR tests for them. It’s burning thro’ the local schools/nurseries here. Touch wood, no serious illnesses but I’ve no idea on incidence of long Covid in younger kids.

That's why I've been constantly buying and wearing N95 masks since the beginning, sadly can't trust others so have to protect yourself the best you can.

This might belong in the rants thread but….
On very busy train, I’m sat against the window in a bank of six, all seats taken, people standing etc. As the train empties there are loads of empty banks of seats on the other side but no fucker moves so I’m still stuck in. I have to climb over everyone to get to the empty seats. Why wouldn’t you move to empty seats, regardless of covid?
It’s also crazy that masks aren’t mandatory for public transport. First busy train I’ve been on in some time and it’s really uncomfortable.

It might be bad, but there are an awful lot of ifs, mights and maybes in that article. So they don't know, but figured they might as well scare the shit out of us just in case we were starting to feel we could live again.
