Really want to book a holiday but it seems so much of a risk. as its just me, a week in the UK would be pointless as costs shit loads and the weather will be shit next week onwards. Really need a proper break from work, still WFH with 1 day in the office and can do more but the office is so empty apart from grumpy cunt, who keeps fucking asking me questions that he should know as manager. Fingers crossed things things will be better as I would love to spend New Years on the other side of the world far away from cunts coughing (and licking each others faces) this New years in the UK. But I expect Boris and his sub human filth to makes things really worse in the UK as they blame the public again (but it will be CON +30 in the polls)

Yes the weather will be shit in this country from next week but it's still better to get change of scenery while you can.
We booked Center Parcs at the end of October, fuck knows if we'll actually get to go but it feels good to look forward to something even if it's over priced meals and shitty weather in a forest.
It's over priced meals and shitty weather in a place that's not exactly the same as the past 18 months.

Thought it odd that during this evening's press conference, fuck face said "during the pandemic last year...".
That tells you all you need to know how the Tories see the situation right now.
On Monday, in the commons, all of 6 wankers wore a mask. Nearly all of the opposition did.
During a street party last Saturday, Walthamstow, me and Ms Eleven63, were the only ones wearing masks when inside the bar getting beer. Which is the 'advice'.
We are, officially, in the hands of incompetence.
It's all going to shit again this winter, and who saw that coming...

What do you think the chances of there being strong restrictions, but not a lockdown, come Christmas? By strong restrictions I'm talking limiting flights, reduction in people visiting family and whatnot, enforced mask usage?

I'd say the limited flights will be more up to other countries, and extremely likely.
For the rest... Fuck knows with this government, but I'd say it should be.

I don’t think they’ll do limitations on visiting family this year and unlikely to close restaurants. They might roll back pubs to table service and tell everyone to wear masks again.
Given they’re still pushing the message that everyone should be back on their normal commute then I wouldn’t be surprised if they do nothing.

NHS have been told to expect the JCVI decision to be overruled very shortly.

They will do the booster stuff and we will probably see a drop like being seen in Israel. But they are basically going with - this is the way it is now.

Still in lockdown here. I'm probably more comfortable with solitude than a lot of people I know, but this is kind of starting to wear on me.

Had a little tangential brush with Covid. Me and my brother had planned a combined family trip to see Shang-Chi this past sunday. On Saturday, we discover that my eldest niece's boyfriend has tested positive. So she had to isolate, got banished into the spare room. The rest of my brothers family had LFTs. All negative, thankfully. My niece had the other test where the results took longer to come through. But she ended up not presenting as well. So she missed out on a good film (9/10)

Yep. Confirmed case in my daughter's class, everyone carries on as usual. It's mad. This is what it's been like in Sweden since day one. Schools never closed, kids got the virus, transmitted to their families. We went to a birthday party this spring and all the other parents, nine families, had been through covid. No casualties though. No longterm effects. Not sure where I'm going with this. Coivd is real, the vaccine work, we're too late to get rid of covid (plus thick people are too thick) so we have to find a way to live with it. Schools can't stay closed until it's gone, because it never will be gone. Or well, we got rid of TBC so if people do what's right we can get rid of covid as well. But it will be decades.

I still feels so wrong. I don't know if there's an alternative (maybe household members only isolate?) but throwing it all open seems like a recipe for disaster.
It would be interesting to compare the rate in England compared to Sweden from July onwards. I know lots supported the way Sweden handled it but I think we are just very different in geography, topography and socioeconomic make up in cities. I'd be interested to see though, so you could extrapolate and see what would have happened had the UK pursued the same approach.

The drive-in testing place was really good and we should get the results back in 24-72 hours. We were told that it’s not uncommon to get them back early the next morning so won’t have to wait too long. Right now, I feel fine and I’m pretty sure it’s just a cold. But if I die, you can have my stuff* * Kids, debt, old pants

Something I'm finding, the people that do go into the office are getting stuck doing tasks for the fuckers that just sit at home as they can't be arsed going in. This cunt I work with, has only been in once (and thats because he had to as I refused to spend all day scanning his portfolios for his job and I had shit ton of my own work to do) Today same thing but only 1 thick bastard portfolio to scan, so ran crying to the manager to get me to do it before I even said No.

I was quite lucky. We were due to go on holiday a few Monday's ago. The Saturday before, the daughter was down for her 17th. Tests positive on the Monday - ie a week before we were due to go. Did LF tests all week, did a PCR on the Friday. All negative. Sunday I start with a raging fever, sort throat, blocked ears.... still negative. Drove down on the Monday, stayed in the caravan for the evening, I was in bed by 7. Pretty much gone by Tuesday, just appeared to be some ear/nose/throat thing. Amazingly, non of our other kids caught it either. I mean, I wouldn't expect the eldest, but my 6-year old daughter is ALL OVER her older sister, constantly.

Have you had the chimp serum? That’s my only hope. I had the proper vaccine, Moderna, so my blood is still in a liquid state. My wife, on the other hand, got the chimp juice. She’ll be dead before morning.

It would be interesting to compare the rate in England compared to Sweden from July onwards. I know lots supported the way Sweden handled it but I think we are just very different in geography, topography and socioeconomic make up in cities. I think the many differences make any comparisons difficult. Might be better to just look at the differences. Sweden is a pretty anti-social place to begin with. We don't sit in pubs or pop over to the neighbour un announced. We hardly have any dense urban areas, and those we do have were hit harder by covid. Comparing Sweden to Denmark is more interesting. They had tougher restrictions, were hit less, and had fewer deaths. Plus it seems like they are about on par economically anyway. Saw some guy on Twitter (yeah, I know) wondering what the fuck Norway is doing different than America. It's like asking what America is doing different when it comes to Baskeball compared to Norway. Basically EVERYTHING, so again, the comparison is kind of pointless. I quite like how COVID has shown that there are no easy answers, that things aren't binary. This day and age people expect there to be a perfect solution to every problem, and that all we have to do is find that solution and then it will fit everyone every where. Still interesting to discuss differences and various strategies etc. I'm convinced the reason the Swedish government is removing all restrictions on sept 29 is because they see that as things stand, more people won't get vaccinated. Now there's the veiled threat of "OMG shit will kick off as soon as everyone starts doing the usual stuff again!". Contrast that with the fascist way of "YOU NEED TEH VAXXERPAPERS OR ELSE!"

WORLDBEATING indeed. I would roll my eyes in withering derision but think I am in danger of wearing out my ocular muscles after the events of the last 5 or so years in this country. Your acquaintance must have Schrodinger's covid, both positive and negative at the same time. Won't know if they actually had it until they pass it on to their loved ones.
Although, if they tested positive on a LFD test then they should probably assume they are positive. False positives are very unlikely on LFD tests (unlike false negatives which are unfortunately far too common)

Biden just announced that all companies with more than 100 employees have to be vaccinated or test regularly, or face fines of up to $14,000 per violation. Bold.
